Trevor Lawrence: Franchise QB (TL Discussion, Merged Threads)

Yep, and imagine being the coach dialing up those plays only to see them sabotaged by 1. the 6th lineman twitching, 2. the receiver stone hands-ing the catch, 3. the TE getting the ball knocked out after a chunk gain, 4. the tackle getting blown up and the QB sacked. Then you get to hear everyone [BLEEP] about the fact that you aren't making those things not happen. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

I don’t think he’s a bust but he’s been a disappointment since there was once a thought he might be one of the all time greats coming out of college. Clearly he’s not that. With work and the right team around him he is better than average, possibly top 10 but he’s probably always going to struggle with accuracy, that’s just something you have or you don’t. There are bigger issues with this team though. The defense in particular is comically bad. Typical NFL offenses make us look like the Washington Generals playing the Globe Trotters. Our receivers have contagious cases of the dropsies and our OL is anemic. And game day coaching and preparation has been awful. I’m surprised we’ve even been mostly competitive. On the plus side we do have some talent at RB and receiver. Something to build on I guess.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

I wonder what would have happened if the Etienne fumble didn't happen or at least coaches had managed to calm everyone down? I'm not a huge fan of Trevor but he was playing well in that game up until that point.
Lawrence was tasked with raising this quagmire of a franchise out of the depths of hell. He can't do it. That's fine. Nobody can really. I don't think Andrew Luck, C.J Stroud, Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams could fix this mess.
We've squandered a golden ticket. This franchise doesn't know what success is. It's allergic to it. We're at least hopefully hitched to him for another five years. I think he's one of the few bright spots to this black hole of a franchise. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? The guys around Trevor who helped him take those great strides are gone now, and those who replaced them just aren't as good. At the same time, those around him then who were ok are now comically awful. The roster, Baalke's baby, has succeeded in getting worse each year as he's poured more of Shad's money and more of the teams draft capital into the wrong players. It's sad how high we quickly went up has now been tragically erased from memory by the last 10 months. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

Nobody can really. I don't think Andrew Luck, C.J Stroud, Jayden Daniels or Caleb Williams could fix this mess. This is the pattern of a basement dwelling franchise. Cleveland did the same a few years ago. Detroit having this run with Campbell now had once happened for a year or two under Jim Caldwell. We're just not good at stacking success together and figuring it out foundationally to keep the pillars going. You're right though. It starts with Baalke. The funk is just awful now for all involved. Coaches unfortunately included. I just can't see this coaching staff and front office fixing this and there's no way I am giving neither groups another chance to make a fool out of me. The players have been awful around Lawrence. Yesterday was bad. Trevor had one bad game this year where we could put it on him in Houston. The other games? I can't really crucify this kid for the 1 - 5 record. I just can't. The bad play on the field. It's on the players. It's also an indictment on the coaching staff to some extent and Baalke especially. So, I don't know. Really bummed out that our season is over already just six weeks in. The [BLEEP] weather has not even cooled off yet to where it feels like "Fall Football" weather here in Jacksonville. LOL. I just want December here already and I want wholesale changes starting with Baalke being shown the door first. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Too.much awful to.defend anyone. Don't draft well and anyone with talent we run off or run into the ground. Going to keep being a tax haven franchise were over paid career come to collect cash.

He's had his moments, for sure, however, again, in the grand scheme of things? He's the far cry of it all. The issues right now are squarely on the defense not improving after we were sold a bill of goods from Pederson last year that it was mostly Caldwell's fault. I thought the same thing after watching/hearing his comments and giving it some thought. I believe it wasn't directed at the entire defense, but at the secondary and perhaps the linebackers in coverage like Lloyd. If Cisco is focusing on his responsibilities every play, not sure how he would see "quit" or "not playing as one" in the D-line is my point. We show less advertisements to registered users. I'm not sure they're better than this. I'm not sure they've quit as much as they're not good enough. On the other hand certain guys on the defensive line are invisible for games at at a time before they suddenly pop up with a great game. That sounds more like quit or not tryig hard. Lloyd is another story. That's just another overdrafted guy who seem unable to grasp what he's supposed to do.

Perhaps that type of move comes with more experience. I felt like I saw a lot of pressures out of Walker on Sunday. I haven't seen any numbers to back that up. I swear he had a hand on Caleb 3 or 4 times though and he either got the ball out just in time or was able to scramble away. I distinctly remember him forcing Caleb to scramble into the arms of RRH on that sack RRH got in the 1st quarter. And obviously Walker had the sack that was erased by the 12 men on the field penalty. CBS never showed a replay highlighting the 12th guy so not sure if someone just didn't get off the field in time or if there were in fact 12 guys out there defending the play which would explain why Caleb held onto the ball as long as he did to help Walker finally get home. Anyway, Walker may not have shown up much on the stat sheet, but I noticed him enough on Sunday to see he was putting in work.
I was more thinking about JHA but Walker also fits the bill to some extent. It's good if he produced this week 'cause maybe it's not abou thim. I wonder about JHA though, I really do.

I think Lawrence is a massive bust of epic proportions. When you factor in all the hype all the way from high school to now. He would be on the bench right now with about half of the teams in the league. He has all the physical tools but fails at the mental part. It is what it is but I think that contract set this team back years! We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

"epic bust" is currently neck and neck with Mahome's in passing stats for the year. You tried. LOL.
I think anyone who watched the 2020 National champ game against LSU got a pretty good preview of Trevor Lawrence as an NFL player.

He can't throw 6 TD passes to win a game when his defense lets the other guy throw 5. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? The Delusion of you puttng Lawrnece in the same Sentence with Mahomes is laughable. 2 different situations. Lets not pretend Lawrence hasn't been racking up garbage time stats. As many times as the receivers has dropped a catchable ball, Lawrence has missed a wide open man to throw to a covered man. You don't have to believe me, many youtubers including Kurt Warner has pointed it out several times. He does it way too often. He doesn't use his legs as much at this level that I had initially hoped to see out of him. At Clemson he made a nice living with the RPO inside the redzone. Initially when Doug was hired I was excited about this potential aspect to the offense. Not sure if it's fear of history repeating itself with Wentz but the running aspect overall with the QB is not really emphasized. Naturally, I also get it. We don't have Jason Peters, Jason Kelce and Lane Johnson out there at LT, C & RT to drive a lot of what Doug would love to do here. This whole [BLEEP] team is gimped dude, the more I think about it, the more aggravated I get. The trench play sucks on both sides of the ball. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky.
