Spotrac's own web site.   It must be only showing it from the Seahawks perspective now.

Not sure if it’s updated. The tweet is from spotracs official Twitter. Just saying taking on 7 mil dead cap for a 2026 6th, for a guy the GM extended… is GM malpractice. No other way around it.

It looks correct upon further inspection even though the spotrac web site doesn't appear to flow logically following the trade.  It was a failure to have extended him, however, we were very likely parting ways this upcoming offseason and the dollar amount of the dead cap by itself isn't that big of a deal on its own.  The cap expands each year and you can easily push money into future years from other contracts.  This by itself isn't going to prevent us from doing anything next offseason that we want to do and the smaller dead cap figure that will be realized for 2024 is meaningless at this point.  Getting a 6th rounder for a guy not likely to be here next season with young guys waiting in the wings to take his spot versus cutting him after the season and getting nothing was smart business from where we stand right now.  The criticism over extending him is valid though.

This is not a fire sale. This is getting rid of a player who doesn’t bring much to the table. Hopefully he can help the Seahawks.

They should dump a lot of people on D if possible.

Cisco misses too many tackles
Arik
Campbell can't stay healthy
Lloyd mental lapses
Darby
Davon

Gabe
Cam
Kirk just start Parker

extreme or not but they need to blow it all up except for Trev,BTJ,Tank,ETN, Harrison on O
On defense I think there is not much untouchable Travon and Allen? Too early on the rookies.

Id like to move Kirk. I think he could fetch some value and I’d like to see more of Parker Washington.

Davon is still young enough.  I'm not sure you shop him.  Cam can go though.

Ham is also pricey. We're probably stuck with him for a bit.

I see it as Smith growing into more PT, so take the opportunity to get something for a guy who isn't in the plans.

If we let him go in the offseason, chances are we either get the same as a compy or we get nothing, depending on how active we are in FA.

That's an easy conclusion to make after a trade at 1-5, but I'm not sure it necessarily means that by itself.  We have a lot of young guys behind him that will fill the vacuum and he hasn't been a significant contributor since 2022.  If we start trading other pieces then yeah I would see it as a throwing in the towel type of move, but I'm not ready to go there just yet.

Heard a loins fan on some call-in show propose 2 4ths for Travon and wondered if I had somehow fell into an altered reality. THAT is what a fire sale looks like.

You take that last part back. We want him to be an albatross around their neck. Heck, for all we know they could be our opposition in the 2026 superb owl.

stop laughing.

OK, stop crying, too.

I do believe it indicates Maason is about to play a lot more. Which is good.

That's the best thing about this trade.  Jefferson also will start to get a lot of snaps.

Has Jefferson been in the roto at all yet?  Haven't noticed him.  Maason was playing more this weekend and that I expect to grow.  Jefferson has more ground to cover I believe.

Hehe I don't know, Baalke loves himself some day 3 picks. Maybe he'll take that trade as a final dagger before being let go.   Wink

I agree.  They drafted his replacements last year.  That and RRH has always been a front runner. Only really plays hard in good times. Throttles it back otherwise.  We saw that in 2022. The first half of that year he was borderline, the second half when the run began he picked it up and played his best ball as a Jag.

He is 6'7" and what 265lbs?. Getting pushed around on the interior. We have a plethora of this type of guy. Maason is 315+, just as fast, we are going bigger. I can understand getting the 6th for 2026 instead of 2025 as we already have an extra 3rd and 4th next year.

Jefferson played this weekend and had 1 assist and I think this RRH move is more about him than Maason Smith. RRH was already down the chart based on what we saw in preseason, they just weren't ready to go with Smith and Jefferson as the back up tackles. Now we're a few weeks into a bad season so no reason not to move on from RRH and get the rookies more time on the field.

I'll buy it. I was thinking rrh was third in the roto and now it'll be maason third. I figured Jefferson was moving from like 7th to 6th but if he's getting in there he will benefit.

Yeah, Smith was aleady getting snaps. Expect JJ to now get more snaps as well.  He played 20 snaps against the Bears.
