The part of this game that blew my mind other than the horrendous blown coverage at the end was the possession where we have the packers pinned on the 8 yard line. For some unknown reason, JHA AND Travon were on the sidelines for the first 5 plays of that drive. Every play went for at least 10 yards and JHA and Travon weren’t put back into the game until the packers were on the other side of the 50. There is absolutely NO reason our best 2 pass rushers to be on the sidelines in that situation. That alone is more than enough reason to lock him out of the building and send his [BLEEP] down the road.

....hey, after the Anthony Richardson thing yesterday, maybe he just wanted to be sure his best guys weren't winded once the pack were running downhill.

In all honesty, probably still [BLEEP]. Maybe slightly less, but regardless still very bad. I remember our defense getting GASHED 10-15 yards down the middle of the field constantly, during Caldwell's reign.

The players are simply not as good as we think they are - outside of a couple players that I mentioned in a previous post.

Also, both sides of the argument regarding the defense can be true. The coaching sucks - but so do our players too.

Pass rushing can be taken down to the granular level where you can simply observe a 1v1 - and our guys lose that battle almost EVERY time, minus the rare coverage sack once in a while.

I honestly think the stupid rotation of tie D linemen is hurting their ability to generate pressure on the opposing QB. DE is one of those positions that requires a lot of snaps so they can use moves to set up OTs throughout the game. That rhythm is disrupted with the constant hockey-like line substitutions Nielsen calls during the game. All I know is I’m sick of seeing our best 2 pass rushers on the sidelines on critical passing situations.

Somebody said something about long drives on D was inhibiting the offense's chance to develop rhythm, but I think you are absolutely on to something here.

I get that you don't want a completely gassed unit late in the game, but the current plan isn't working. Maybe look at how the other decent defenses operate and borrow some of those approaches.

I'm not saying we don't get rid of Neilsen.  I'm just saying that this Jaguar D held the Packers to 13 points while Dougie and his boy's offense pissed all down their leg for 20 game time minutes.  You have to give credit to the players on D.  Yeah, the secondary is suspect.  But the players on D over-all are good enough to keep the game close. 

We got an INT in the red zone for crying out loud.  The D did the best they could do for as long as they could do it.  My question is this.  Why would Neilsen not realize that once Love was out of the game that they should focus on their RB??????

It's just bad coaching, guys.  It's obvious.

It is bad coaching, but those turnovers - the interception AND fumble - were solely on the player who committed those errors. And that led to 14 straight points to the Packers after they got amazing field position.

The defense did it's thing for most of the game outside of the very last drive, but those turnovers by TLaw and the 14 points scored in a span of 1:15 do not fall on the defense, given the position they were put in.

And yeah, Jarrian made a tremendous interception only for it to be given right back to the Packers unfortunately.

the counterargument though is that TLaw is not getting any of those same opportunities.

Our D is not getting turnovers, forcing short fields, or making stops to limit offensive scoring. He's having to tote the team fully across the entire field to put points on the board just to keep pace with the opposing offense.

In spite of those two turnovers, TLaw still dropped 300 yards and 3 TDs and still got an L. How did the D respond once he tied it back up?
With a faceplant blown coverage that let a poor backup QB look like Mr. Clutch.

Spend in free agency at the defensive tackle position. Hamilton ain’t it, and neither is Armstead.

With the D we need to get back to the very basics. Are we going to be a 4-3, 3-4 or a hybrid. Are we going to be a man coverage or zone coverage team (I know teams switch but they have a predominant style). What system suits the players we have? Do we pick a system that works with what we have or do we start to rebuild the D to fit the new system. I really think we have to start from the very bottom again with this D.

Not that it's not talented or needs a rebuild but we need to find a system and team that fits together.

We could do with improvements and pretty much every position group on D in the draft and FA.

Ok lol I should have said someone like the Texans dc or the Vikings dc. By the way, are those two defenses that much more talented than the jags? If so, throw in a good blitzing dc who does a good job with less talent.

This is what drives me crazy. Unless youre Belicheck or Reid who have established cultures over several years, you CANT expect to make YOUR system to work, you need to adapt to the players and their skill sets. Even Bill and Andy are constantly adapting their systems to the strengths of their players. 

A blanket of “let’s just play man” doesn’t work when you don’t have any speed or quickness at corner, and safety’s who fall and can’t cover have the field. Not to mention when you have no interior push. 

These rotations are a freaking joke. Arik and Travon not taking more snaps inside is a freaking joke. The explosive 40+ yard pass plays by average QBs every week is a joke! 


What pisses me off the most is we are so close in these games, and the Defense just can’t stop anyone, Trevor has no room for error and can’t play free. Then he becomes deer in the headlights robotic Trevor.

Gotta try something, anything on defense. The coach clearly can't manage the talent on the defense, so just TRY and find someone who can. The defense is by far the worst in the league, so what's the harm in trying something (or someone) else.

There isn't enough talent on defense. While the coaching isn't great, I don't blame Nielsen for most of it. Most coaches would have the same issues. The subbing is definitely his issue.

Jags basically just had to try and be average on defense but instead, we have to be weird. Just rotate the big DTs not your play makers unless they are tired!

I like offensive head coaches but since we have one and he don’t even want to call plays, I’d take salah who could at least lock down the defense. Then, he would have to hire a good offensive coordinator. Not crazy about it but better than the current situation.
