My recommendation would be to tank to maintain the #2 draft spot, and likely move up to #1 with a Patriots win.  The #1 pick should help attract the best GM who wants to shape the team and hopefully comes in with a list of HC candidates that fits his preferred scheme.

No tanking.  The rest of the season we find out who is with us and who is here for a paycheck.  Besides, my guess is the only changes we see are OC and complete rebuild of that side of the coaching tree and a few assistants on the defensive side.  Unless, Kahn believes he can get an upgrade across the board.

Same. I have a hard time seeing them winning against anybody else left on this schedule. That's including the Jets, Raiders and tacks. They might split the series with the tacks this year.

Add me to the list for this. Nothing I have seen tells me as a TEAM (coaches included) know how to close out a game.  Seems they get within striking distance and their rear ends pucker up.

Or, you know, they're just about 5 points worse than most NFL teams.

When you consistently lose close games, especially when the team comes out lost at the beginning of every game, it's clear there is an issue.  Losing close means we have talent.  Consistently losing close means we have no leadership.  And, sorry to say, leadership comes from the HC and the coordinators.

Look at every team that is successful, they all have quality Head Coaching.

My concern with winning the “easy” games is Khan seeing a strong late season performance as “Doug got it figured out” and keep everyone.

You and me both, friend.

As to OP, I don't think you can separate the feelings about the season from Doug and Baalke's job.

Most everyone here expected playoff contention based on the team we had. At the end of the year, even if we manage 7-10 somehow, you can't be satisfied. It's still a disappointment. Like our Sundays, the slow start will have doomed us to fall short in the end. It would be perfectly fitting, and just as perfectly frustrating.

I posed this question before, but if you fire Doug and put someone like McCoy in his place and he has success down the stretch which is entirely possible, are you ok with him being a serious candidate for the job moving forward?  It would be difficult for any owner to fire an interim coach at the end of the season that goes 5-1 or 6-0 over the stretch where they are the head coach.  I don't think most would be all that happy with McCoy, but maybe that sentiment changes if he indeed gets the opportunity and does go 5-1 or 6-0.

I think the bigger question is what happens under McCoy. If the offense clicks, and he and Trevor have some connection, you have to entertain the idea.

Right now he's in Trevor's ear as the QB coach, so I would fully expect Khan to give Trevor a voice in saying whether he'd be cool working with McCoy as HC before any choice was made.

I will say with McCoy's HC experience in San Angeles, working under a miser like Dean Spanos doesn't make the job easy. Past performance may be a negative, but it has to have some form of asterisk.

I don't want McCoy and don't want to be in a spot where he may get the job by default. The way our luck is we'd probably fire Doug, not get our top 5 targets then rehire him a week later.

When I can't sleep tonight I am fully blaming you for this nightmare scenario.

Is Mike McCarthy a bad coach? How about Zack Taylor? Was DeMeco Ryans a great coach last year and terrible this year? How about Sean Payton, did he suddenly forget how to win last season and some magical April trip to Cancun brought back the Juju? What about Papi Chulo McDaniel down in Miami, did his new look cost him his coaching ability? How about Kyle Shanahan, did he lose the magic this year? All these guys must be terrible leaders, lol. Or it could be that their rosters aren't doing particularly well. Jimmy and Joe not X and O, once you accept Tony Boselli's worldview outlook you'll understand the issues here.

Just for the record, these are the remaining games

Vikings
@Lions
Tinhorns
@T*tans
Jets
@Raiders
T*tans
@Colts

So my question is what should be our aim for these games. Try and win as many as possible and get some confidence and finding things to build on for next season? Start to play some depth and rookies to start seeing what we have on the roster in competitive games? Are we starting to think draft spots?

If we won 5-6 of these last games, would that change anything about how you feel about this season (I'm not talking saving Doug or Baalkes jobs).

You better hope we don't win many games (won't happen anyway) because with 4-5 wins there and Khan will say that is good enough to keep everyone for next year lol

Fans deserve better. Thanks for all the good times too many are in the past.

I don't think anyone is taking it from Jayden Daniels, but I'm ok if BTj is second in the voting. Another 6 or 7 TDs should do that easily.

Not a chance, unless Daniels wins league MVP, and even then, I gotta think he'd get both awards in that scenario.
