Gladiator is a movie which stands on its own. Any attempts to duplicate or expand on the original is folly. 

Hollywood is out of ideas. There's so much content being generated these days across all of the media streams, it has exhausted the Idea well.

Funny my wife commented I hate all the new movies we go see. I’ve always loved going to the movies but man just can’t find anything good anymore. It’s all magic/superheros, remakes/reboots, or sequels.

It's easier to tell a story in a universe/with characters that are already familiar than to start from ground zero and build up.

It's lazy.

I thought Topgun 2 was a good sequel.

It was the best sequel of a movie that I can think of. The fact that it took so long to get it made actually made it better. Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer actually aged in real life and that alone made the storyline great. I don't care how good of an actor you are, there are some things that are done much better with some actual age and experience. 

The way they filmed the flight scenes was awesome. Pure awesomeness. 

The only thing that tripped me up was there is no way Maverick would still be in the military with those years at that rank.

Top Gun 2 was…okay.

I’m not a fan of sequels because they almost always flop while watering down the original. The best sequel series I’ve seen are the Indiana Jones movies. They were all great except the last one. I was never into Harry Potter movies but people seemed to like them.

I’m with Eric. It’s just not worth the effort and money to go to the movies anymore. They’re either retreads or have the main characters in super hero costumes. Movies have become too slick and infantilized for my tastes.

We watched the new Aliens movie.. Actually wasn't too bad.

I guess Prometheus (sp?) left a bad taste, just wasn't a fan. But the new one is really decent.

The writers for the movie "Airplane" chipped in together to buy a racehorse for $60,000, which they named All Pink. Then they instructed the jockey that winning wasn't the objective, only to keep the horse next to the inner rail for the entire race. All of this so they could hear the race announcer say, "It's All Pink on the inside".

I get the sense that people don't realize how crucial that battle was.  It completely stopped the Japanese domination of the Pacific and from that point on, they were going backwards.  And for our dive bombers to come across the Japanese fleet at that particular moment was an incredible stroke of luck.  

Sometimes I wonder what it must have been like for Lt. George Gay to be floating in the water watching those 3 Japanese aircraft carriers get hit by our dive bombers. What a moment that must have been.  In just five minutes, the entire momentum of the war in the Pacific turned in our favor.

Took the grandsons to see Moana 2. Didnt see the first one, but this was was pretty much 'woke' free. The animation was top notch, the story just average.

I just finished Juror #2 on Max and thought it was a solid movie the last movie 94 year old Clint Eastwood will direct as he is retiring. 

Summary: While serving as a juror in a high-profile murder trial, a family man finds himself struggling with a serious moral dilemma, one he could use to sway the jury verdict and potentially convict or free the wrong killer.

It's hard to say much about it without spoiling it but I thought it was a great story about a dude whose moral compass is seriously challenged throughout and an ending most IMDB reviews called 'lazy' but I thought was pretty awesome. I want to say why but it might be TMI. 

Just watch it.

Another great court thriller/drama.. We had to also read it in High School along with Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men ect ect..

Check out 12 Angry Men, though.. The classic and the reboot are both pretty great!!
