Trump says he will abolish Daylight Saving Time
|
Here's an issue on which I can agree with Donald. He says he plans to abolish Daylight Saving Time next year. I'm indifferent whether we abolish it or make it permanent...the main thing that really sucks are the switches.
This seems like a good idea, but we will probably need to redraw the time zones if we do this. It's bizarre that Indiana and Maine are in the same time zone...most of New England should probably be on Canadian Atlantic Time. https://x.com/realDonaldTrump/status/186...1_&ref_url= I'm game but sadly Trump doesn't keep many promises We show less advertisements to registered users. It should really be a north/south thing as to whether they keep the regular time or the daylight savings time. Florida needs to stay on the savings time. I like my late sunsets. I don't know from experience, but I hear that people up north would like to abolish it. Either way, I agree that the changes need to be gone.
I prefer the current system. All my activity is usually done by 10am and it's just meetings after that, so I like the morning light when it's colder.

The current system requires us to change our clocks twice a year, and either gain or lose an hour of sleep twice a year. It's very irritating and pointless. I don't care if we have permanent daylight savings time or permanent standard time. I would like for us to pick one or the other and stick with it.

I hate this time of year in Ohio. Sunrise today was 7:59am Sunset will be at 5:11pm. I start work at 5am and am off at 3pm. By the time I get home, I have a little over a hour of daylight. Summers are quite nice, sun doesn't go down until around 9pm.

Sounds terrible, but would it be better if sunrise was at 9am and sunset at 6:15? “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

An adult with a child this age in the house will lose sleep if they let their own sleep routine be affected by the clock.

Adjusting daylight saving time twice a year disrupts routines. Shifting the clock alters meal times, work schedules, and sleep patterns. This misalignment with the natural circadian cycle can lead to fatigue, reduced focus, and long-term health effects. Consistency in timekeeping eliminates unnecessary disruptions and supports stable, healthier routines. Now do this, but with babies. Hell, my dogs drive me nuts when they start bugging me for food at 4pm. It's unnecessary.

Not sure what is taking so long to implement it.

At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.

I work in a factory, any extra daylight in the evening I would appreciate. Aside from breaks, I don't even get to see the sunshine. So coming in when its dark and going home to it becoming dark is very depressing. Luckily for me, we tend to slow down at work during the winter. My normal 10 hour days at least I get the sun for a couple hours, but on the 12 hour days I pretty much just skip over the daylight lol
