Coaching Search Thread

#1

Since the other thread was more related to firings, figured a thread dedicated to the coaching search would be nice.

So far the Jags have requested to interview

Liam Coen
Ben Johnson
Aaron Glenn

Possibly Vrabel?

As we all know most options will either decline or just not interview. For the obvious reasons.

Yeah, I'm not sure that's the case. Even the Jags job is an elite position in all of sports, it would be hard for anyone to turn down the opportunity to at least sit down and talk about it with Grima and King Theokhan.

I’d like to see Flores and Arthur Smith.

Someone posited the idea of Flores paired with Wes Philips as offensive coordinator.

Robert Salah would be an absolute nightmare. He was pure garbage as a head coach for the Jets.

Vrabel is off the board. There is no way the Patriots move that quickly and the owner take the blame in firing Mayo if they didn't already have their sights set on Vrabel and have some form of commitment from him. This could be the most blatant violation of the Rooney Rule but the Pats are used to circumventing the NFL system.

Saw this. I wouldn’t mind Saleh. He gets his players up to play always and he’s used to distinction in the front office. lol

Graham I don’t know nothing about

It’s part despair, part hyperbole. Maybe I should say most preferred options or hot commodities

I’m from NY and I can promise you Salah is the last guy you want here. His teams are unprepared and undisciplined and he never holds anyone accountable. Most of my friends are die hard jets fans and they’ve wanted him gone for the last 2 years and with good reason. He’s awful. Basically a very expensive head cheerleader.

A more apt comparison has not been made. Kudos.

Saleh fulfills the Rooney Rule requirement, plus he'd be a decent option as a defensive coordinator so it's a win-win situation to bring him in for an interview.

I can't see the Jags going with a defensive mind for the HC position, given their investment in Trevor

They requested to interview the following so far:

Kellen Moore - OC - Eagles
Todd Monken - OC - Ravens
Joe Brady - OC - Bills
Liam Coen - OC - Buccaneers
Ben Johnson - OC - Lions
Aaron Glenn - DC - Lions
Patrick Graham - DC - Raiders
Robert Saleh - Former HC (Defensive minded) - Jets

In my opinion. Brady, Coen and Johnson are the only names worth a [BLEEP]. Out of those eight listed, for me, it's:

1. Ben Johnson
2. Joe Brady
3. Liam Coen
4. Kellen Moore

Not wasting time on any defensive minded coaches unless it's Brian Flores and Mike Vrabel personally.

I guarantee you, all these candidates are going to be calling Doug Pederson and asking him about Trent Baalke. And if Doug says Trent's okay, that he wasn't a problem, that they got along well, it will smooth the way for these guys to want to compete for this job.

Mia O'Brien made a good point about some of these DC candidates coming in as HC. They might be courting them to help a young OC minded HC to pivot and run the defense.

Liam Coen in the lead per betting odds.

No DC is going to leave their team to be the Jags DC.

That would only apply to the former HCs.

The jags need a real defensive coordinator like one who knows how to create pressures with actually blitzing. Blitzing helps out the defensive line.. I mean, blitzing linebackers. We need a good offensive coordinator who can help Trevor out and help out the running game. Jags defense looks lost too many times during the season. All that being said, I prefer an offensive guru type head coach but I’m scared now because of how things went down with pederson.
