Leon Searcy:, "Doug failed because Trevor regressed."

If you redrafted the 2017 draft, the vast majority of teams would trade 2 or 3 1st rounders to go up and select Patrick Mahomes at #1 as opposed to #10.  And the actual #1 pick, Trubisky, would likely have fallen to the 3rd round.  So my point is that comparing him to to other #1 picks doesn't really get you anything.

And finally to answer your question, I think the reasonable expectation is that your QB improves each year.  I think after Lawrence started to look like a proper QB in the second half of 2022 and the beginning of 2023, he started to regress and that's after leading the entire league in turnovers.  You can blame injuries in 2023 if you'd like, but to begin 2024 he regressed further with (and I think everyone agrees) an improved Offensive Line and a clear #1 receiver.  So my expectation would be that he improved in 2023 over 2022, and improved in 2024 over 2023.

This is primarily what I want to see next season - was the issue TLaw, or the playbook? He's out of Doug/Press's system, so do we see improvement? I think that's the biggest reason why everyone wants an offensive mind leading the team - Doug's system seemed so...plain, and I can't help but wonder if it was limiting our effectiveness. Even after we allegedly improved weak spots, results were the same. Still couldn't convert short yardage, messed the bed whenever we entered the red zone. Turnovers down, but was that at the expense of aggression?

We will likely know a whole lot more of the answer this time next year and likely sooner.

Just talked about this in another thread, but I think it was the playbook because of TLaw.  But just like you said, I think the answer will come with a new offense system.

Can we leave the personal insults behind for a while and get back to some semblance of topic, gents?
Please, and thank you.

It needs to also be stated that Searcy said.

" The Jags pass block on running plays". For those that don't know...that sounds like Phil Roucher can't be gone fast enough. Whatever the running game did this season it was in spite of having a guy work on their run blocking who apparently didn't know how to get his guys to run block.

Brandon Scherff is no longer that dude.   Next season I want him gone.

I heard that statement, too, I think it was Tony Boselli re-quoting it.  What Boselli was saying, if I recall correctly, was that this team is soft.  That's an indictment of the coaching staff.  They don't seem to play with any fire.  It seems like we played hard for the first quarter of the first game and then we melted and couldn't overcome it for the rest of the season.  I would watch our games and it usually seemed like the other team came out and played HARD and we were just going through the motions.

That's why I keep saying, X's and O's are nice, but what we need most in a head coach is strong leadership.  Players have to be held accountable for effort and focus.  Three years into his time with the Jaguars, Doug Pederson said we need to change the culture.  Three years!  Great Scott, what a statement after three years at the helm!  That's when it was obvious he needed to go.

When you aren't any good playing against good teams makes it looks like you're not trying. And Pederson's comment was clearly about the the guy bringing the players who aren't any good, that should've been evident.

Searcy and Boselli's comments were indeed about the guyS bringing in the players.

And that included Pederson, who constantly harped on athleticism from his O-Linemen - and Baalke who clearly didn't like that approach. ("bigger and stronger")

Again -I wanted them both gone, but if we're pointing fingers at OL building, they both get their share here.
