Who is this young upstart of which you speak?  Bernie is the official Socialist of the party.  Laughing

Social democracy is a form of democracy, that's no problem. If you don't like how a social Democrat spends your money you can vote him out.

Mamdani isn't a communist, but he is pro-Hamas, which is probably worse.  The Hamas part is the problem.

American loses again as yet another “Big Beautiful Bill” has passed chock full of pork. No different than the “We must pass this bill to see what’s in this bill” bill.

The pork is marginal.
The Medicaid cuts are big and states and hospitals will have hard choices.  Not many people will lose insurance, but the number of providers that accept Medicaid is likely to go down in many places.
There are ways to cut the bloat, rent seeking, and vulture capitalism in medical care but they require careful thought and hard choices. This bill defers those choices to the states.  But that's kind of how Medicaid has always worked anyways.  The Feds need to take a harder look at the incentive structures around Medicare, I think, to cut the spending without cutting the care.
They should have closed some tax loopholes, also.

The chairman of the House Budget Committee pushed back on Elon Musk's claim that President Donald Trump's $3.3 trillion "big, beautiful bill" is full of "pork."

It's a claim the tech billionaire made when the House was considering the legislation the first time around, and he re-vamped those attacks again this week as the Senate wrestled with the bill.

Chairman Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital in early June that it was not possible for "pork barrel spending" to be included in the legislation, called a budget reconciliation bill, because the reconciliation process was simply not the mechanism for such federal funds.

"Reconciliation does not have anything to do with discretionary spending — earmarks, and all of that," Arrington said. "And quite frankly, the [Department of Government Efficiency] findings were, I think, almost entirely an issue for... annual appropriations."…

Let’s check back a year from now and see what the national debt is.

All of the projected debt is from extending the tax cuts.  Did Elon not want them to extend the tax cuts?

First no pork in there. The parliamentarian would have x'd it out immediately.  Also every penny of pork would have been identified by the democrats and multiplied by infinity. LOL

Next during COVID the Feds upped the ratio of 9 fed dollars to 1 state dollar. This was reduced to almost pre-covid.  That means all the rural hospitals are actually in better shape payment wise than before COVID. They are ok as long as they do not try to cover illegal alien costs with fed dollars.

A cap of the "special" tax states could charge providers for medicare and medicaid. This and the 9 to 1 pay ratio above is how New York, Minnesota and New York (and a few other blue states) were paying for illegal benefits.

I am unsure it is still in there but those states that remove the asset test for seniors to qualify for Medicaid (not Medicare) get a lot less money. What was occurring was an elderly senior could get Medicaid even though they were multi millionaires. (remember the "special" tax above....Wink

is a 900+ page bill slugging through it just like I did a Democrat one earlier.  Yea I should get out more often I know.

Here is a nugget from the BBB. I would say getting caught could be costly .....

Sec. 112209. Termination of tax-exempt status of terrorist supporting organizations.
Current Law: Under current law, the IRS generally only issues a letter revoking recognition of an organization’s tax-exempt status after (1) conducting an examination of the organization; (2) issuing a letter to the organization proposing revocation; and (3) allowing the organization to exhaust the administrative appeal rights that follow the issuance of the proposed revocation letter.

Provision: This provision grants the Secretary of the Treasury authority to suspend the tax exempt status of any tax-exempt organization that, during the three years prior to designation, provided more than a minor amount of material support or resources to a listed terrorist organization. The provision allows suspensions to be lifted only when the supported terrorist organization is de-listed as a terrorist organization, but the Treasury Department’s ability to suspend tax-exempt status is subject to a robust set of procedural and due process protections, including notice requirements and an opportunity to challenge the designation.
