What Would It Take For You To Trade The Number 1 Pick

#41

Quote:dude seriously? how many drafts in the recent memory have had more than 1 franchise QB?

2012 is the only one that comes to mind, before that, Rivers/Manning
Dude seriously? You're an NFL scout and really think Bridgewater is all that's out there?

I'm of two minds: I want to get Bridgewater, so many of you guys can make excuse after excuse if he fails (you know, like some do now re Gabbert), or I'd love Caldwell to take a deal to get numerous more picks - just to see some of you guys have an on-line stroke.

Either way it's going to be amusing.

Quote:But the 1st pick of the draft is the only way you're getting that "special" QB that is unlike the rest of the QB in this draft.
2011 says false, Neanderdog.

There's zero logical reason for such a comparison.

2011 didn't have any QB's worth taking for the most part.  I'd still take Cam Newton over any of the other QB's.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

So, somones opinion that doesn't coincide with yours makes it laughable?

As much logical reason as comparing Clowney to Reggie White.

when some of them those opinions also stems from the same thought of geno being worth #2 overall last year yeah its laughable. also i dont see any media outlet or reports comparing him to luck or peyton atm.

clowney is thought to be the best DE prospect in the last 15 years. im not seeing any reports teddy being compared to luck except peoples opinion in this board. if you can provide any i'd be happy to read them.

Geno isn't a bust yet so those opinions aren't wrong (player wise, draft value they/we were wrong). That's fine but not everyone has to agree with everything media people say.

yeah exactly my point, cant really blame me for being adamant. and i didnt say geno was a bust. i agree teddy is the #1 qb prospect and well worthy of the 1st overall pick but to anoint him as the next great prospect like peyton and luck is just jumping the gun too soon.

Still entitled to their opinion. I don't think he's on lucks level but he's not far off.

i agree though when someones opinion doesnt have a stellar track record regarding qbs, its hard to take that opinion seriously.

All of us probably have horrible track records when it comes to this.

I don't think anybody compared Geno Smith to Andrew Luck though.  Not many people said he was a sure thing either.  People liked Geno because he put up big numbers.  Not because of anything he showed.  Most people saw him as little more than a starter.  And remember everyone here got excited over Matt Scott too -- so the Geno love was a result of QB deficiency in a year with no good prospects coming out.  I do however remember a user saying he wanted Bridgewater as early as last year, that didn't want anything to do with Geno Smith.

There are two things here: what I expect and what I want. I expect the Jaguars to trade that pick for later picks if we trade down, not a pick for a player. But I want a player - one who is still young and did not recently have major surgery, but has proven himself on the field.

Lol. No chance we trade out of the one spot passing on a franchise QB.

We need these awful fans to disappear. Hopefully this tank season will weed out the casuals.

I joined this thread late so I can't quote everybody with a comment worth replying to, but here are my ideas based on what I read so far:

1. People who say they would be angry if we pick Clowney are not talking about how great Mincy is. Sure, we need a quarterback, but you have to think about other needs. If one of them is defensive end, you should be happy with either Bridgewater or Clowney. Do we not have a terrible pass rush?

2. If Tannihill, Stafford, Wilson, Ryan, Cutler, Kaepernick, Schaub, Wilson, Flacco, and Dalton are all "franchise quarterbacks" so are Braxton Miller, A.J. McCarron, Johnny Manziel, and several guys I never heard of. Either all of those guys are elite or pirkster does not know what a franchise quarterback is.

3. Nobody is going to offer anything like the Robert Griffin deal. Three first round picks to move up only six spots was probably unheard of. Two first round picks would be a lot more realistic, and even that type of offer should not be expected. But I would love it if that happened.
