Quote:With Blackmon out half the season we're going to need a 1st WR. Welcome to Jacksonville Sammy.
I'm thinking Mathews. Gotta use that 1st pick on either the best pass rusher available or trade back for your developmental QB (If possible) If not, then yeah, Watkins

Quote:In many instances, he does work in a vacuum.

It's not a stretch to think his mandate would be enough to change when the draft happens.  He doesn't have to cede to the wishes of the GMs or coaches.  He'll be more than willing to do so with the owners, but even then it's not a given.  If he has some reason to justify leaving it in May, I could see it staying put.  That being said, he's already made some indication that this will be revisited.  Not only the dates, but the venue as well.

I never meant to imply Goodell deals directly with the wishes of GMs/coaches - but everything I've read about Goodell indicates that he works closely with a group of owners and does not act unilaterally.

This is a league. Why many on here want to demonize Goodell and act like the owners (people like Shad Khan and Robert Kraft) would just sit around and check NFL.com to see what's happening to their league, is beyond me.

Why does Khan and the other owners get a free pass regarding - "Oh my God, look what they're doing to the NFL!" ? I don't think Goodell does anything of substance without getting a feel of the pulse of the owners. He wouldn't be Commissioner for long otherwise.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

As long as his actions continue to bolster the bottom line for the league, the owners aren't going to demand any unusual oversight.  They're going to trust his judgment in most matters.  I don't think anything is different in this instance.  As long as the money is coming in, everyone is happy.

Quote:I agree with that. I don't like it. I hope it goes back to late April like before, but with Goodell, probably not.

Goodell likes making examples out of any player who is a problem. Blackmon can't expect anything thing less than half the season. Hopefully when he does come back,He dominates and keeps out of trouble. This is his last chance to be a part of this team. I really want him to get it together and be a part of what the jaguars are building. I would hate to see the team Rise from the bottom and start busting heads without him.

A clean and sober Blackmon would make it easier for this team to rise from the bottom and start busting heads, that's certain.

I'd rather he gets a suspension then to not come back at all.

That would be admitting he was wrong. Not going to happen.

When is the deadline for the ruling on blackmon?  He could be suspended forever. I would just like to see an official ruling if he gets to play this year.  If Watkins is available and no good trade offer, I would understand the pick.  We still don't even know if Blackmon is capable of staying sober.

Agreed. It would be nice to see him turn a corner and get his life in order. He could be a difference maker for this team if he could make that happen.

For Blackmon's personal sake I sincerely hope he's able to pull his life together and comeback. If he doesn't I fear he's going to be a tragic 30 For 30 subject. I don't want to see that. On a personal level he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but one with demons.

On a more jaded note, the money he's forfeiting is jaw dropping. Hopefully that becomes one of his motivators.

How does the line from that one Jimmy Buffet song go? Something like "... I made enough money, to buy Miami, but I [bad word removed] it away somehow."

As you stated, the opportunity that he is throwing away is monumental. For his sake, I hope he gets things turned around.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Quote:I heard a rumor he's moving the draft to the middle of the season next year.

I heard a rumor that the draft will be every two years now. But only after leap years.

Goodell is going to restrict the draft to 31 teams each year.  The lowest revenue team doesn't get to pick until he forces them to move to London or Los Angeles.

It'd be great to see Blackmon back. An 8 game suspension seems realistic but I'm crossing my fingers for 4.

If we get him back, it changes the entire dynamic of the offense. Hopefully, if/when he comes back, it's for good this time.

Quote:This morning on 1010XL, Jaguars' offensive coordinator Jed Fisch indicated he expects an 8 game suspension for Blackmon, and that Blackmon will not be cut or traded.

He also indicated that the Senior Bowl was a bigger advantage than he initially thought.

Jed Fisch indicated he fits scheme to personnel not the other way around, but states they want to run the ball better than they did last year and would like a 58/42 pass/run ratio which is a little more run based than the league norm

According to him, the Jaguars run about 55% 3 WR set offense.

Gerhart is very hard to tackle, and that he is adept at pass protection (and is very high-4th attribute he listed in what he looks for in RBs).

Makes me think they really like one of the QB's-  Gar? Carr? Boyd or that kid from The U?

He was saying it gave them more time to talk with players on the entire team than the combine or pro day workouts would.

Here is a link to the interview.

Quote:I don't know about Henne ever being servicable, but I have thought about such an array of skill players.  Such a lineup would be appealling, especially if Blackmon can stay clean and not suspended.
if we had such a good stable of skill players hell peyton manning would come here as Qb lol
