It's nice to see consistency each draft! In Jacksonville you here the same thing year after year, we are building a team, wait till next year... and wait and wait and wait. I've been waiting so long that my kids now have kids to bring to the games. And what does the couch think about the #3 pick? : "He's a down-to-earth guy, a self-made guy, a blue-collar guy and he wants to be the best he can be," said Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell, who added a word of caution: "He just needs a little bit of time." Time...Time time is not on our side. It's time we had players that are ready to play now not after I'm long gone!!! The staff did what the Jags staff are known for taking the easy way out and not risking it for a NOW player.

lol...proven idiots that were hired last year.

Quote:I don't recall anyone on the media blasting the pick. The guys on ESPN loved it.

Then again, what they say means nothing to me so yeah.

The people on NFL network liked it as well.

Quote:The people on NFL network liked it as well.
Depends on which people.

Lavar Arrington did not like the pick.

Warner did not like the pick, either, but not because of the player...but because of the lack of surrounding talent on the team.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Stephen A and Skip Bayless hated it, but that's likely just damage control. They're riding Manziel for the ratings

What little I watched (instead of following online) Gruden was all over Manziel last night too.  It was kind of disgusting.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:WOW!!! This type of logic is why the front office gets away with this crap

Okay, you've won me over.  Down with the regime!  Now what?

That should really be counted as an endorsement!

We overpaid for an old injured Clemons??  Would you care to elaborate on the precise details of his contract??

As far as the injury is concerned, he's missed 2 games in the last several years due to injury.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:I get that.

The difference here between fans like you and I vs. the folks who are ready to impale themselves over drafting Bortles is that some of us are willing to let this thing play itself out.  We're going to be labeled apologists or whatever tag these whiners come up with because we're not joining them in burning down the house over the pick.  We're open to seeing if what Caldwell, Bradley, and their entire scouting/coaching staff saw in Bortles actually pans out on the field.

Bortles was regularly in the discussion as a top QB pick i this draft, and was even projected to go to Houston in a few venues with the first pick.  So, all of this anger over this selection is silly.  The team had a need at QB for the long term.  Every fan of this team knew this.  The front office grabbed one of the top prospects.  Without playing a single snap, or participating in one practice, some here have already deemed the guy a bust.

What happens if he's not?  I'm fairly certain those who are whining today are going to dig their heels in and if he starts to show he's worthy of the selection, they will continue to nitpick and harp on minor things he doesn't do the way they would prefer.  One thing we can be certain of is that the malcontents are always going to find something to complain about.

In the end, we've gotten one of the top QB prospects in the draft.  Not a single poster on this board knows what the future holds for him.  He may succeed, or he could fail miserably.  We won't know this until he's actually allowed to get on the field and prove himself one way or the other.  Some of us get this.  Others prefer to go with the knee jerk reaction.  Those of us preaching patience are lambasted, while the knee jerk crowd somehow thinks they hold the high ground.

Excellent post.  I agree with Chuck Norris.

Quote:How many national tv games have we played??/ Do we play this season??? Dont give the small market excuse either

Yeah, we shouldn't bother using logic to explain why the Jaguars have ALWAYS been on the short end of the stick when it comes to nationally televised games.  Applying logic is just a waste of time, especially where you're concerned.  That much is clear.  You're just a sniveling little whiner.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

We get it.  You're a whiny little malcontent 24/7.  Buy some Midol.

It's funny, you can tell what channel people were watching during the pick by their comments here.

I was not surprised by the pick.  I felt the jags had about 4 guys they were willing to take at #3 depending on what happened in front of them.  Had Bortles and Clowney been gone we might have taken a trade if it was offered.

Bortles was generally considered the QB with the highest upside in the draft.  We had just re-signed Henne with the intent of him being the starter in 2014.  They team was probably concerned about Bortles going to Minnesota or Cleveland if they dropped back to 9 or lower.

Aside from having the highest upside at QB in the draft Blake, is also a guy from one of our secondary markets.  So there is a possible business benefit to this pick outside of the football benefit.  If you add to all of that the fact that Bortles has the kind of character that our head coach likes then you should be able to understand the pick.

As I said previously, the same folks who called the Gabbert pick brilliant when we moved up and took him are the guys who are wondering why we took Blake.  That to me is a ringing endorsement of this pick.

You have to remember that this team is approaching this as a multi-year building project.  Bortles will be ready when all of the pieces are in place.

I think Mr. Khan needs to provide complimentary tissue boxes for some members of this board....... *tears*.....

GO JAGS!!

Let's Get Em!!!! Go Jags!

This, IMO, is what makes the pick.  Cleveland sure traded out fast after we picked, and it was reported that Bortles felt like Cleveland was a legit possibility.

Quote:You need playmakers.  OT's are not playmakers.  It doesn't matter if he'll be better than Austin P or not.  You DO NOT draft a tackle two years in a row -- especially in the Top 5.  If you can't find an RT in the later rounds, you should not have a job as a GM in the NFL.  It doesn't matter how good Matthews will be (and he may even *shock* be a bust)
A good OT is better that a below avg qb in this pass happy league.  We are so bad we have enough below avg players to last us forever.

lovethe jags absolutely

Don't  forget there are a few on the board who stand by the team, and don't need any Depends.  I know nothing about Bortles cause I don't watch college football, but I love  what I hear about his work ethic, and chacater.

snowwolf titans owner in madden.

note titans owner means im undeafted againest them.
