Man, I don't know if 4-5 million is a comfortable level for Shorts. I could certainly see 2-3 million per. I think the average wide receiver pay is just over 1 million per. But by all accounts he is the consummate professional with an outstanding work ethic.

 

Top tier receivers are making north of $10 million per.  Some are pushing upward of $15 million. 

 

Shorts is worth $4-5 million per year. 

 

If the Jags offer him 2-3 he should walk.

 

You can't use the average salary because that includes an overwhelming majority of guys who are scrubs.  You have to look at the market, and where Shorts is among starting receivers.

If they offer him something in that range, I'm betting he signs a deal happily.  Cecil doesn't come across as a guy who is going to be difficult to deal with for an extension that puts him into this category.

No way he get what Riley Cooper got, IMO.  Better not since we just drafted two WR's so high, and he's had injury issues.

Not sure what drafting receivers in the 2nd round has to do with Shorts contract situation.  It didn't seem to concern Caldwell when he said they were working on an extension.  That $4-5 million range is pretty much where he falls. 

 

You're basically agreeing with what you're responding to if you bothered to look at Edelman's contract.  He's getting paid around $5 million per year under his current contract.  He has about the same total receiving yards as Shorts (1770 to Shorts' 1786), but it took him 5 years to get there while Shorts is coming off his 3rd year in the league.  Shorts also has more TDs, and a higher average.

 

McCluster is getting $3 million a year and Shorts has more receiving yards, averages 6 more yards per reception, and more than twice as many touchdowns, all accomplished in a year less than McCluster.

 

You didn't really bother to research this, did you?  It's okay to admit you just have an agenda here.

Point is you can draft and develop and let a guy get traded, or even walk away and keep winning.

 

Getting Shorts on a long term deal here won't be what determines the success of the Jaguars.
