2014 World Cup Discussion Thread

I don't even know what this says...

Quote:The referee for the opening game of the World Cup was from Japan. A country with a growing football interest but not deeply rooted, and a league that is definitely not big time. The USA v Belgium game tonight is being officiated by a referee from Algeria I believe. These referees are better referees then I will ever be, but they're now making decisions on the biggest stage with millions watching. A long way away from their normal matches with a few thousand people in the stands

The Algerian referee has been officiating high level international games for 10 years. These refs have enough international experience regardless of their country before they make it to the World Cup.

All Group winners advancing to the quarters so far.

Thats interesting.

Although, some of those advancing have been tight. Brazil and Costa Rica advanced through pk's. NED had a tough/physical match going to the end.

Argentina is in a tight one currently. We'll see how Belgium/US shakes out.

Can't wait until 16:00!

So annoying.  They want you to watch all the pre-game garbage.

Tough loss for the Swiss.  Everyone I talk to at work and the gym hate Argentina.

Russian trainer, and two hispanic guys whose background I'm not sure of.

At work its a Columbian and a Venezuelan.

I don't feeling like asking why because they seem to get pretty fired up over it and I have work to do.

There are only a handful of sporting events in my life I've been this pumped for.

FSU's national championship games

Jaguars in the AFC championship game

USA v. Germany in the 2002 Quarterfinals

This has been a long 5 days.

This is the down time all my cars are done just waiting on people to pick them up, so I'll sit here watch the game and wait for people to drag in before 6.

The Belgium fans need to recognize this is our hemisphere.  Sit down and shut up.

Is it not a big deal if they run out of bounds? It seems like they go across the white boundary line all the time.
