Just one of the Manziel threads that has been made or threads where people voiced concerns over Johnny.

 

Johnny Manziel is a first round quarterback.

 

Michael Sam is a 7th round tweener.

 

They aren't the same situation in terms of the "circus" and being "cut" because of it.

 

Stop fabricating 'bigotry' to try and make some argument about something that isn't there.

 

I'm not seeing anyone in that thread calling Manziel not suitable for the NFL because there's too much "media circus" around him. In fact most of the thread seems to be simple amusement over the incident.

The media circus around Manziel is much larger than anything around Michael Sam in spite of Sam being the much more noteworthy player. There are people IN THIS THREAD claiming that Sam's "media circus" is why he's not worth having on an NFL team. However, Manziel's "media circus" is larger and has gone mostly noted only in passing.

 

So either I'm right, and this is really about bigotry over Sam's sexuality, or there are posts with people saying teams shouldn't have a guy like Manziel because of the "media circus". You claimed that there are people making those kinds of assertions about Manziel, so go ahead and link some of them.

But there were also people who said things like "Sam can't be cut.  There'll be too much backlash."  Of which there wasn't.  Sam never played the gay card either.  Sam has opened the door for other openly gay players.

Imagine an openly gay player is drafted in a state with gay marriage.  Would they then be unlikely to sign with a team's state where gay marriage is banned?  I'd have to imagine so.  One of my best friends is a lesbian, and she's considered moving so that she could marry her girlfriend.  I'd think it'd be something that effects their decision.

I have no problem with Michael Sam.  I hope he succeeds and has a long NFL career.  The attention the NFLN and ESPN have showed him is a bit frustrating.  He's a 7th round practice squad player that gets more attention than every player drafted outside of Johnny Manziel and I'd say he's gotten more attention than him.

 

I wish the networks would leave the kid alone and let him play football. I firmly believe places like ESPN and NFLN and their coverage of Michael Sam's sexuality have hurt him and his playing career.

Instead, it is what it is.  No reason to wrongfully apologize for either's failures or distract from the truth with false accusations.  But then, when there's no substantive argument, I suppose mud flinging and lazily throwing out empty claims of bigotry is the checkdown in that scenario.
