Quote:http://jungle.jaguars.com/index.php?/top...ht-vs-wsh/ I'm not seeing anyone in that thread calling Manziel not suitable for the NFL because there's too much "media circus" around him. In fact most of the thread seems to be simple amusement over the incident.
Quote:The media circus around Manziel is much larger than anything around Michael Sam in spite of Sam being the much more noteworthy player. There are people IN THIS THREAD claiming that Sam's "media circus" is why he's not worth having on an NFL team. However, Manziel's "media circus" is larger and has gone mostly noted only in passing. There are people who are very glad we didn't take Manziel. But there were also people who said things like "Sam can't be cut. There'll be too much backlash." Of which there wasn't. Sam never played the gay card either. Sam has opened the door for other openly gay players. It does make me wonder though-- Imagine an openly gay player is drafted in a state with gay marriage. Would they then be unlikely to sign with a team's state where gay marriage is banned? I'd have to imagine so. One of my best friends is a lesbian, and she's considered moving so that she could marry her girlfriend. I'd think it'd be something that effects their decision.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
Quote:There are people who are very glad we didn't take Manziel. I'm glad we didn't take Manziel, but it has nothing to do with media coverage. The bigots railing against Sam and the media aren't actually railing against Sam or the media, they're railing against the shrinking acceptance of society against LGBT individuals. I think the gay marriage issue won't be an issue much longer. If the supreme court doesn't strike down the bigotry of state laws refusing to recognize gay marriage it won't be long for it to come through conventional federal political process, I'm sure. Who are you to spout off all this about what people think? Over a simple thread on a Jaguars board no less.

Quote:None of that is being laid out but apparently you and only you can't see it. The imaginary media circus, the predicted but absent activist outcry, the posts decrying the immense distraction of being asked about showering. Apparently I'm just much better at connect the dots than you, or maybe it's hard to see all the dots when you happen to be one of them. Quote:The imaginary media circus, the predicted but absent activist outcry, the posts decrying the immense distraction of being asked about showering. Apparently I'm just much better at connect the dots than you, or maybe it's hard to see all the dots when you happen to be one of them. As you say this, Michael Sam is on NFLN for the upteenth time today. I have no problem with Michael Sam. I hope he succeeds and has a long NFL career. The attention the NFLN and ESPN have showed him is a bit frustrating. He's a 7th round practice squad player that gets more attention than every player drafted outside of Johnny Manziel and I'd say he's gotten more attention than him. I wish the networks would leave the kid alone and let him play football. I firmly believe places like ESPN and NFLN and their coverage of Michael Sam's sexuality have hurt him and his playing career. You can call me and others a bigot all you want but that won't make it true.
Quote:As you say this, Michael Sam is on NFLN for the upteenth time today. If you're uncomfortable with the amount of coverage he gets you're free to change the channel. However, he does merit coverage, much more than Manziel and for the right reasons, he's got a level of courage that most people can't touch. This isn't a society that a gay man can count on acceptance in, and the example he makes of the level of acceptance in the NFL and for young gays struggling to find acceptance in a world that frequently won't accept them is immense. I'm not going to go into this area of the discussion because I don't think it fits here. You seem to put words in peoples mouths too often. That's not how this works.
Quote:such a homophobic thing to say LOL @ "homophobic".... mooncheese. toastercarburator castlebinder Quote:Calling out bigotry = troll. Obvious troll is obvious. It began up on your arrival, with Gabbert. You've since moved on to new muses. But please, carry on being oblivious to your own behavior. Sam being a marginal football player isn't bigotry, any more than the president being a disappointment isn't racism. Neither are what some would excuse them to be. Instead, it is what it is. No reason to wrongfully apologize for either's failures or distract from the truth with false accusations. But then, when there's no substantive argument, I suppose mud flinging and lazily throwing out empty claims of bigotry is the checkdown in that scenario.

Quote:Obvious troll is obvious. It began up on your arrival, with Gabbert. You've since moved on to new muses. I've experienced plenty of trolling here, but I've been rather diplomatic considering the level of response I've gotten. Sam being marginal isn't bigotry, the posts about how wrong it was to show him kissing his boyfriend during the draft sure were, though.
Quote:If you're uncomfortable with the amount of coverage he gets you're free to change the channel. While perhaps he does have some courage, the NFLN, ESPN and other media outlets aren't the place to show it. He gets media time NOT because of his play on the field, but BECAUSE he is gay. If you want to talk about gay issues, watch the Oprah network or something similar. NFLN and ESPN are not the place for it. People that watch NFLN and ESPN tune in because they want to hear about sports, not social issues. This guy actually had a press conference after signing with the Cowboys. When in the history of the NFL has a player signed to a practice squad ever had the need to hold a press conference? This guy is pretty much nothing when it comes to NFL news and should go away faster than Tebow. We can sit here and speculate as to why he was signed to the Cowboy's practice squad, and if I were to give my opinion, it has nothing to do with his skill as an NFL player. There are 10 kinds of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those who don't.
