The myth that is "building through the draft"

Quote:Im sorry, what? Gus won 4 games. Mularkey only won 2, but gene smith has more wins to his name prior to that final season.More wins with other peoples players. After 4 years of putting his people in place, he won a whopping 2 games. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! So now your argument is solely based on your psychic abilities. ![]() Give it up dude. You are just embarrassing yourself now. Quote:More wins with other peoples players. Look at the Packers last night. Dominant, super bowl caliber with a previous recent championship. All but 5 players home grown talent. Building through the draft and having a quality QB are about the only way to sustain success.

JDR was the best coach we had. He had no talent besides stroud and Henderson and Freddy and made us competitive... We almost beat NE if it wasn't for the Harrison int
Gus has to go.. We have talent these kids are good... He's not making them play to best of ability

Quote:Ummm... What pro bowlers are currently on the colts roster? And which pro bowlers on the pats' roster were actually drafted by the team? Andrew Luck and Robert Mathis made the Pro Bowl last year, and both were drafted by the Colts. But your argument assumes that not making the pro bowl means you aren't an effective player. T.Y. Hilton has put up huge games for the Colts despite not making the Pro Bowl yet. The fact that the long term success of the team hinges on Bortles' development does not negate or invalidate the build through the draft philosophy. It strengthens it and highlights the importance of the draft. The contending teams are replete with drafted talent. Arizona currently has the best record in football with a 8-1 record. Among their drafted players are Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Peterson, Darnell Dockett, Calais Campbell, Michael Floyd, and Tyrann Matthew. Denver has among their drafted players LT Ryan Clady, WR Demaryius Thomas, TE Julius Thomas, LB Von Miller and FS Rahim Moore. New England has Brady, Nate Solder, Sebastian Vollmer, TE Rob Gronkowski, DT Vince Wilfork, DE Chandler Jones, LBs Jerod Mayo and Donte Hightower among their drafted contributors. Detroit leads the NFC North with a 7-2 record. Their drafted contributors include Qb Matthew Stafford, WR Calvin Johnson, DT Ndamukong Suh, TE Eric Ebron, LT Riley Reiff, RG Larry Warford, DE Ezekiel Ansah, LB Deandre Levy Even if Bortles doesn't work out, the draft is still important if the team is to be competitive. The Cardinals missed on numerous drafted QBs, but because they drafted so well aside from QB, they are leading the division. I'm not sure why you are minimizing the draft's importance here, because the evidence overwhelmingly shows it is vital to contention. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

The team we just got destroyed by, built the strength of their team (offensive line, running game, passing game) through the draft. Seattle and San Fran built through the draft. It's a painful process, but if you have the right GM and coaching staff, it is very possible. I think we have the GM to do it, now it's time for Gus to step up.

Quote:What people fail to grasp is that in the nfl you are supposed to put together a quality product every year. Because people are paying for it. "Youth and inexperience" should not be an excuse. We went this route for whatever reason, and so far we arent seeing any results. So Seattle's defense with drafted players being the best at their respective position had nothing to do with it? Denver's passcatchers and oline had nothing to do with it? The Pats continuing to draft and develop WR's and RB's has nothing to do with it? Packers just lucked into their passrushers and WR's too I guess.
The team that just destroyed us has one playoff win in like 20 years or so, it's not an example I would use.

Lets look at the GRIM reality of the situation. This franchise has picked in the top 10 the past 7 seasons, with a likely top 3 pick in the upcoming draft. We have NOTHING to show for it. NOTHING.
Quote:http://members.jacksonville.com/sports/f..._source=cx Killshot on page 2. Well done, Bullseye. I thought this troll had a fighting chance, but not anymore. Who would have thunk that a sportswriter covered this very same topic about our blowout loss yesterday? It's bittersweet.
