Quote:Mike Zimmer -> Norv TurnerSomeone will make an excuse..... Gus should never have hired Fisch in the first place. Guy had zero track record. We show less advertisements to registered users. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
I think Scott Linehan would be a good choice, actually. Though he might get a job as an HC.
I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

Quote:Chip Kelly -> Pat ShurmurThat's good stuff right there. Shurmur has about as much to do with the offense in Philly as any OC that was hired by Tom Coughlin while he was here in Jacksonville. That offense in Philly is all Kelly's. Shurmur just keeps the seat warm. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Quote:Is Dallas getting rid of him? He has I believe a one year contract, and I think he's just the play caller and passing game coordinator. I don't think it'd be a lateral move, but I might be mistaken.

Quote:That's good stuff right there. Who cares how Philly uses him? That's not the point. Rookie coach Kelly was able to hire an experienced NFL coordinator. Shurmur had good credentials from before Philly. "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?"
Quote:Bennett has less experience than Fisch did when the Jags hired him. Offensive Coordinators are typically WR and QB Coaches. If Mike MCCarthy is constantly giving ringing endorsements of Bennett and saying he'd be a good future coordinator who am I to disagree? The job of OC isn't just play calling. It's managing the entire offense, working closely with position coaches include QB coaches and finding the best ways to develop and maximize offensive talent. I think Bennetts experience is more than sufficient. Jedd problem was leadership and managing his entire offense. He was Gus' buddy but not really a good coach. Shurmur had good credentials from before Philly. If we are being fair, Kelly was/is much more respected than Bradley. Not defending Gus' hire though. It's clear now Fisch was a bad choice.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Fisch was never a good choice, but let's be honest. When Fisch was chosen, it felt like a short term solution. At least it felt that way to me. I always thought Fisch wasn't long for this team. He lasted one more year than I thought he would. I don't think Bradley hired an OC for the long term. With Blaine Gabbert as a QB, it's not easy to draw the top OC's to your team. Especially as a Rookie Head coach going to a team that's been at the bottom of the barrel for a long time.

Quote:If we are being fair, Kelly was/is much more respected than Bradley. If we're really being fair, just about every team had better offensive personnel than the Jags at the time. Hey Shurmur, how would you like to coach an offense with Gabbert at QB? "Why should I give information to you when all you want to do is find something wrong with it?" Quote:Do you think an NFL team hires Jedd Fisch? Of course. Oehser and Lageman and Boselli told me he was a future NFL HC. Quote:Fisch was never a good choice, but let's be honest. That's precisely what happened with the Fisch hire. Two years down the road, Gus will have a little more of an expanded viewpoint in hiring his next OC. While he may still hire someone he's worked with before, the criteria for what his expectations will be for that position will be significantly different than they were when he was trying to slap together a staff quickly. If Mike MCCarthy is constantly giving ringing endorsements of Bennett and saying he'd be a good future coordinator who am I to disagree? With a young QB who needs to have a coordinator who is going to be as much a mentor as he is a coordinator, I don't see Bennett as a viable option for this team regardless of what McCarthy says about him. There's too much youth on this roster, particularly on that side of the ball, to hand the keys to a guy who's cutting his teeth as a first time coordinator. You're basically pointing out why you don't want someone who isn't experienced with running an entire offense as your coordinator. Bennett's experience lends nothing to the notion that he can oversee the entire offense. Not questioning his ability to coach position players. I just don't think he'd be a good fit for the situation here. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

There's too much youth on this roster, particularly on that side of the ball, to hand the keys to a guy who's cutting his teeth as a first time coordinator.I guess his experience as a RB/WR coach would severely limit his ability to run an offense. I honestly don't see a huge talent gap between a WR Coach and A QB coach. If you are strong leader and have a good staff that can maximize your offensive players then you shouldn't have a problem coaching. Bennets coaching career seems to be on a similar track to a guy like Hue Jackson in terms of NFL experience, both being RB/WR coaches. Prior to being name offensives coordinator in 2004-2006 (great years for the Palmer led Bengals), Jackson was a RB coach. The Bengals fielded the 7th best offense in 2014. As far as Bortles he will best benefit from directly working with a very experienced QB coach and a OC who understands what he does best on the field. |
