I wonder how much money Greg Hardy will command in FA. I know he was suspended last year but that guy's an elite pass rusher. If the Jags could get him even slightly discounted because of his legal problems, that would be a good pickup if, of course, he doesn't get in trouble. A big if but the Jags are at the point in their history where they have to take some chances on people.

And that's one guy I would not take a chance on.

Should the Jags want to sign Bulaga, the cost will most likely be in line with what Branden Albert formerly of the Chiefs signed with the Dolphins with 5 Year contract worth 47 Mil, averaging 9.4 Mil per season.

 

So the Jaguars will pay LT money for a RT? That's not going to happen.

What I find most interesting is that all tackles are treated the same in terms of Franchise Tag numbers. While I am not totally sure, it recall reading that all Olineman are treated as the same according to the Franchise Tag designation. Accordingly, a RT is the same as a LT when it comes to money paid to a player who is tagged.

 

The 2014 Franchise Tag price for an Olineman, whether it be a RT or a OLG, or a Center was set at $11.654 Million.

 

I am thinking this would carry over to the cost of Free Agents on the open market.

According to Breer, below are the following official franchise and transition tag numbers per position for next season. The franchise tag amount is the average of the top five salaries at each position for each year, while the transition tag starts with the average of the top 10 salaries for each season at each position.

 

Based on that criteria, the average top 5 salaries for a RT will be $28.8 million total with $9.4 million guaranteed.

 

10% increase in total value would yield a 5 year deal around $32 million dollars and $10.5 to [12.75] million guaranteed.

 

Bulaga would be paid as a top 3 RT if he inks that deal, earning him around $6.4 million per year.

 

However, if we calculate salary based solely on the highest paid RT (with the intent on making Bulaga the highest paid RT) and take a 10% increase of his contract, the figures are 5 years $38.5 million and about $17 million guaranteed. Still nowhere near that $9.4 million yearly and $50 million total value.

 

I expect Bulaga to ink a deal somewhere between what Marcus Gilbert and Gosder Cherilus signed.

Agreed, however I am fearful of the pool drying up big time by the time free agency actually starts. Between stupid franchise tags and players signing with their old team, this really deep FA class may be shallow by the time we are able to get to anybody.

The Boston Herald expects the Patriots to use the franchise tag on impending free-agent FS Devin McCourty.


With a deal unlikely to be reached before the March 2 franchise-tag deadline, the Patriots' best chance of keeping McCourty off the market is the franchise tag. The tag for safeties should be somewhere around $9 million, but New England would hope to work out a long-term deal this offseason. McCourty will be Rotoworld's No. 1 available safety if he reaches free agency.

Not sure the legalities of it, but if teams can put a clause in his contract that voids it if he is convicted of DV, he could be pretty enticing on the open market. 26 year old with 26 sacks in his last two seasons played.

Today, Jason Cole of Bleacher Reports suggested that the NFL is not going to punish Greg Hardy any further and since the Panthers have already stated that they will not attempt to re-sign Greg Hardy, then should the Jags consider signing him in Free Agency?

 

In 2013 Greg Hardy had 15 sacks and in 2012, he had 11 sacks.

 

He is 6'4" 274 lbs and will be 27 years old next season, so he fits all the criteria for playing the Leo position.

 

If the Jags could sign JPP, then he would most likely be my first choice, but Hardy may actually be better and certainly a cut above Jerry Hughes.

 

So what are your thoughts on signing Greg Hardy a non-convicted person who paid his dues.

I think any of those 3 options would be a very good option. I would gladly take Hardy, Hughes or JPP. I think now that we know that Hardy is cleared he should be likely to play this next season. If he can stay on the field, he is a very good sack machine. Hughes has had back to back solid years rushing the passer and also plays good against the run which is a big plus. JPP was classified as inconsistent by most people and still recorded 12.5 sacks. If we got any one of these 3, I would be ecstatic.

He could be an option but you would have to wonder his football conditioning being out of the league for a year. You also would want to protect yourself in signing a contract with him with provisions against off the field infractions. Any other domestic violence incidents should render the contract null and void with no other guaranteed money paid.
