2015 Free Agents - Who Do You Want?

Quote:Whatever we do, sounds like they plan on spreading the FA money around wisely for key needs, and not going overboard on one single area.Hopefully, I'm wrong, but to me that doesn't sound very reassuring. My take is that Bradley's saying the team intends to spend on several good players on both sides of the ball rather than throwing huge contracts at two guys and calling it a day.

I'm just hoping this doesn't mean signing guys like Michael Oher instead of Bryan Bulaga(if he is available). Basically, I'm fine with not throwing all the money at 1-2 players as long as it means we still make plays at McCourty if he becomes available.

But I think really gus just wanted to get across that they know they have a lot of money but they arent going to be dumb about it

You have to pay for talent and talent doesn't come cheap. Yeah, there's the risk of signing a fat albert, but at least it shows that they are trying and not bargain shopping at the goodwill for sub par talent.

Quote:At the same time, the biggest spenders in the last few years got the smallest return.Dolphins, Titans couple years ago... Eagles a while back.... Browns gave out a ton of money the year they gave LeCharles Bentley a lot of money. A common theme for teams dishing out a lot of money is the QB. They aren't cash strapped because their QB isn't elite. Packers, Saints, Lions and others can't go around throwing money because they have a lot of money in their QB.
Figures like 10 Mil per year for Byron Maxwell - CB - Seahawks tells the whole story for the CB market this offseason. It is a question of supply and demand and the demand is higher than ever. Accordingly, the Jags may not be adding a CB this offseason if they are able to land a few of the other positional players they seek.

<p class="" style="color:rgb(41,47,51);font-family:Arial, sans-serif;background-color:rgb(245,248,250);">Yesterday I mentioned how hot the free agent cornerback market will be. Early numbers i'm hearing are $10 mill/annually for Byron Maxwell Quote:My only thoughts about Mike Wallace is that the Jags might be able to secure him through a trade which would help the Dolphins Cap situation and help the Jags because they need only RENT Mike Wallace for a year at his 10 Mil salary and then decide if they wish to move on since they have no signing bonus money involved I would prefer Torrey Smith over Mike Wallace. (Assuming he doesn't re-sign) He'll come a bit cheaper and offers more to his overall game.

<p class="">"I think it's pretty close to set." - GM Caldwell on plan heading into Free Agency. Hopefully, the plan is a good one and gets executed well.
Per rotoworld:
Quote:Byron Maxwell | SEA That's a pretty high asking price. Is he a top 6 CB? Doubtful.

Quote:Per rotoworld:The question is, will he be good as "the guy" or does he thrive from being on such a stout defense. Personally, I like him, I think he's good, but we have bigger concerns. Quote:Per rotoworld: I would be surprised if the Seahawks even considered Byron Maywell a top 6 CB in their system. It's fair to raise the question how much has Maxwell benefited from being on a Defensive unit with Pro Bowl caliber DB's surrounding him and an overall very good Defensive unit? I don't know if anyone really knows the answer to this question. At the very least, it's something any team considering offering Maxwell a mega contract needs to explore in-depth. Personally, I like him, I think he's good, but we have bigger concerns. This is very much along the lines of the question I raised at the same time you made your post. It's a key question considering the investment involved.
If the Jags are unsuccessful in luring the top tier Free Agents then I think these players could be targeted.
1. Jabaal Sheard - DE-Leo - Browns - Much better with his hand in the dirt (7.5 to 8 sacks / year) - 7 Mil/Yr 2. Joe Barksdale - ORT - Rams - ZBS Tackle - 6 Mil / Yr 3. Chris Culliver - FS/CB - 49er - 2011 Combine listed him as a Free Safety - Good CB - 7 Mil/Yr 4. Rob Housler - TE - Cardinals - Move TE with 4.55 Speed (2012 - 45 Rec.) - 3 Mil/Yr 5. David Ausberry - TE - Raiders - Another Fast Move TE - former WR - 1 Mil/Yr 6. Akeem Ayers - Otto LB - Patriots - 4 Mil/Yr Trade Rd 7 to Dolphins for Mike Wallace - inherit a 10 Mil/Yr contract for 2015, but could cut ties in 2016. Another option to Mike Wallace might be Darius Moore - WR of the Raiders. He is kind of a Cecil Shorts type player, that had a poor 2014 season but in 2013 had 46 receptions with 5 TDs and in 2012 had 51 receptions with 7 TDs. He probably will cost less than 2 Mil per season. Lastly I am wondering if the Jags should consider taking a chance on Darren McFadden - RB from the Raiders. I would not sign him except on a Veteran Minimum Contract but he still can catch the ball and he still has the straight line speed. Perhaps a change of scenery would help him and the Jags in the process. |
