2015 Free Agents - Who Do You Want?
|
Quote:Oh, you watched the games. You must be right then. My bad.Just as our impressive defensive sack number was mostly an illusion (as evidenced by us being dead last in pressures), a large amount of our offensive sacks were an illusion too. PFF graded us middle of the pack for pass blocking, for example. They of course just grade each lineman as a pass blocker individually, so that helps take out the part that wasn't their fault, such as when Blake runs into sacks, or holds the ball too long, or coverage sacks, or sacks where a TE or RB blow the assignment. Being unable to separate the reality from the raw number totals is a common flaw. Rookie C, rookie RG, 1st year FA LG, essentially rookie LT, turnstile RT, three rookie WRs, rookie QB, etc...see how simplistic using the raw sack total is when there are so many factors that contributed, but also have an excellent chance of improving alone internally? EDIT: and yes, I do think Dave will aggressively attack RT in RT or the draft...but the other 4 starting spots will be the same next year. That's not a bad thing. Good article about Luke Bowanko. Certainly can see why Bradley is optimistic about him. http://jacksonville.com/sports/football/...okie-trend
Does anyone know a site that says how many sacks were allowed by certain positions? I was looking through old game stats and if I had to rough guess, roughly 1/2 the sacks were allowed by the RT position all alone. Quote:How about this scenario (I'm bored); out of your list, would you rather have Wisniewski (or Hudson) and Bulaga, or Suh and Hughes? If you could sign either pair. I LOVE the idea of Hughes, Marks, Suh, and (potentially) Leonard Williams on the Dline, but I think protecting Bortles is absolutely imperative. I think I would go with the offensive lineman, preferably Hudson/Bulaga.You know it really shocks me when people talk about WR being drafted in the first round. Until we have our OL fixed(Draft/FA) we will have no team at all. Last year we enjoyed exciting pick ups in the draft at QB and WR early. This year we will be looking to add OL and DL till we think we have it fixed.I think we will know for certain who we will be going after in the draft around March 15 when the dust settles.

I have become fairly convinced that we will take the 1st RB off the board. Especially with what you just pointed out, qb and wr early last year. This year ee not only trade back... We draft our reliable RB as well

We draft our reliable RB as wellIf the first RB off the board lands early in the third round, sure. Even if we trade back to 20, this team would take an offensive or defensive lineman at that spot, maybe a linebacker if the right one is there. We're not drafting a running back in the first round. You draft players when they are available, not when convenient. This draft is strong at WR. Not so much at OL. The best player in the draft is a DT. If he's gone, WR is more attractive than OL for sure at #3. Trade back, and we've go many, many more options... and that would be a good terrific thing. Our best case, IMO. RE:WR, I'll reiterate something. We haven't had a WR1 since Jimmy Smith. That's quite some time. If we were to find our WR1 with pick #3, there's no problem whatsoever with that. I for one, haven't forgotten we've been missing that for the last decade, and would rather not wait ten or so more years.

I know who I don't want in free agency.... James Casey (who they are bringing in for a look)

Suh, Bulaga, McCourty, Cobb/Maclin
In that order.

If Cobb wants 12 million a year, let him go to the Black Hole.
I don't like the fact that it sounds like we are targeting Murray. I like Murray, but with the depth of the draft at RB, or the possibility of McCoy, please no Murray. McCourty may come down to how much more we offer him than the Patriots, as he wants to stay with the Patriots. Offer him enough Caldwell.

While it is almost impossible to read the tea leaves that the Jags are leaving, listening to John Oesher, who may or may not know anything, it seems that the Jags
WILL NOT pursue Suh WILL pursue Randall Cobb May pursue Julius Thomas - although Oesher seems to suggest that the Jags may not be ALL IN for Julius Thomas Stay tuned, because it looks like Caldwell has his own agenda and it may not resemble anything that anyone else has put out there.
More and more I get the impression that the Free Agent landscape is changing and so too are the Jags plans to pursue certain Free Agents.
The No. 1 Free Agent the Jags seem intent to pursue is Randall Cobb - WR - Green Bay I would think the No. 2 Free Agent would be Devin McCourty - FS - Patriots After these two the list is a bit more uncertain. My guess is that No. 3 would be Brian Bulaga - ORT - Packers I am getting the vibe that the Jags are not so keen on Julius Thomas at TE as much anymore and might go cheaper with Rob Housler - TE - Cardinals Housler's name has not been mentioned anywhere and is not on anyone's list of the top 100 Free Agent prospects but I think he fits the profile that the Jags may have for the position and he should come at a nice discounted price. TE may be more of a target in the draft. We have seen from one source the name Brian Orakpo - Otto LB - Redskins Not sure if this is a smokescreen or not. He looks to be one of those "Prove It" type signing with lots of incentives if Orakpo can remain healthy and produce on the field. One player we have not heard anything about is Jabaal Sheard - DE-Leo - Browns He is considered to be more of an OLB, but his best years were when he played DE on the right side, which fits the DE-Leo position. He is a 5 to 8 Sack guy but should come at a modest pricetag. One last player that I believe should be considered and this is pure conjecture on my part is Colin McCarthy - ILB - Titans He is coming off of an ACL but he might be someone for the Jags to check out and sign for LB depth. |
