McCourtney To Remain With Pats

#41

From his agent:

Quote:Free safety Devin McCourty is off the market, deciding to re-sign with New England late Sunday night. He was being pursued by several teams, including the Jaguars.

McCourty’s agent, Andy Simms, told the Times-Union this morning that the Jaguars were, "very much in the mix," before the Patriots stepped up.

"A very intriguing option to Devin before he went back to New England," Simms said of the Jaguars in a message. "That organization has a lot of positives.”

McCourty was also linked to the Eagles and Giants. His deal with the Patriots is for five years and $47.5 million.

Can't say the Jaguars didn't try to get him.

Dave is REALLY trying to get these guys, and that's what impresses me. He's not trying to dink and dunk with Goodwill players like history has given us.. As long as he's trying to get these guys, we should land some of them, and that's enough for me right now..

Go Dave!!

At least there is evidence to support the idea the Jaguars made a legit effort to sign a top tier guy.

Usually what happens is a guy will sign elsewhere, and people on the board will lament the team didn't go hard enough after a guy simply because we didn't sign him.

Here, we have articles and quotes indicating the Jaguars made the effort.

Should we have held a gun to his head instead?

When you offer more money than what he accepted, and he still decided to stay, that's not on Dave..

Dude. It wasn't amount the money for most of these guys. Cobb and McCourty took significantly less to stay put.

Dave clearly failed. He needed to send a severed horse's head with the offer sheet.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Apparently now there is uncertainty whether Revis will return.

Would you be in favor of a short-but likely expensive-Revis signing as a consolation prize?

If we have the money to spend and are "settling", absolutely.

For sure, but if he does hit the market I think the eagles get him.

Oh wait forgot they got Maxwell

You can continue "building through the draft" while still getting a guy like Revis for a couple of years. After all, we aren't really that far off from competing to win the division.

Nah, just needed to send a severed horse head to Belichick's house, with a note saying "McCourty is ours unless you want to sleep with the fishes"

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.
