Eateries in Seattle are beginning to shutdown as $15 dollar minimum wage looms

Quote:Sure thing bro. I'll just accept that you're unwilling to address the actual numbers in favor anti-corporation emotion.
accept whatever you want, the end result is the same...walmart is one of the largest employers in the entire world and pays the very lowest wages and employs mostly part time employees...no matter what the numbers are, the statement above remains the same just as I said

Quote:There's really only two ways to attack the problem create legislation or competition the problem however is Mega corporations have become so massive it's becomes difficult to imagine either approach really effecting them.
agree (sadly) but the question is, how can you make mega corps do what's best for the economy and people? I can't see any way to force them to employ more full time people, the minimum wage can be raised but then they will have even less full time people and more part time people...Mega corps are all about the money so somehow they would have to be enticed into more full time employees...

And you believe they should do something financially unsound to assuage your need for their business model to reflect your personal values and not their own. Even while you also insist that they are the most successful business entity in their industry. So give up what works, great idea!

once more I can see you don't read my posts before you run off at the fingers...that just brings up another thought...who is responsible to make the economy flow? Who can make it better? The government? Unlikely, Big business such as walmart can easily stimulate the economy, but they would rather just pad their pockets instead of allow people to make more money so they spend more money...GREED

Corporations have fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders; not the government, not the economy, certainly not their employees. The market would have control over some of their behavior if there weren't so many artificial impediments to that influence, but it is what it is when you attempt to centrally direct the economy. No one forces any person to shop or work at Walmart, those are the choices of the participants. Don't like it? Go somewhere else.

once again you didn't READ my post or you don't understand...First of all...I asked WHO could stimulate the economy and who's responsibility it was to do so...I THEN stated, that big business COULD stimulate the economy, I did not say it was their responsibility...READ before you post...It would be easy for big businesses such as walmart et.al to stimulate the economy and make it grow. People work at walmart because they need money just as they work any other job. walmart just makes the most money and pays the least...

If you are not going to read my posts before you respond, please don't respond..If you don't understand I'll try to make it clearer for you

What, in your opinion, is the minimum acceptable profit margin for a corporation like Walmart to function on to engage in your social engineering behavior? Please, just give me a number so I can see where you consider profit to become greed.

Greed comes in at any time you screw your employees to keep money for yourself...There is no magic number, Corporate greed is what it is...If you don't know what it is, google "corporate greed walmart" and there are pages upon pages on about how walmart is the king of corporate greed

So it's whatever you say it is then, great foundation of logic there.

Quote:I can't trust anything from a well known liberal website which has left wing views. I've seen first hand how bad the minimum wage can be. Obviously, this is a partisan issue with a lot of different views and interpretations depending on where you live, and what your political views are. Anyways, it doesn't matter whether someone at McDonalds loses their job due to the minimum wage or not. In 10-15 years, most of these unskilled, low pay jobs will be replaced by robotic workers anyways.

Its literally interviews with business owners in the area and calls into question the validity of the article that started this thread. I guess if you'd rather only read things that give an echo chamber type of political viewpoint than ignore it. Its not a good way to have a conversation in my opinion though.

For comparison I'm anything but conservative but I'll still read all the click bait titled buzzfeed rip off articles some people post here.

why don't you just say you don't understand because it's obvious you do not...Any time corporations cut benefits, hours, et.al for their employees just so they can keep more money for themselves/company officers, is corporate greed...Now is their a certain profit margin that happens at? No, therefore your question has no answer other than the answers I gave...if you don't understand that's fine, it's clear you do not so we can just end this now and get back on topic

Corporate greed runs wild in multi billion dollar companies...walmart is King of it...hiring very few full time workers so they don't have to give them benefits, taking away all the bonuses from managers, changing their retirement plan to where nearly no one uses it because they don't make enough money, taking away the 90 day raises(after first hiring) and making it yearly raise and then capping it, while corporate officers recieve millions of dollars in quarterly bonuses and salaries...there are pages and pages of walmart being the King of corporate greed...simply do a quick websearch " corporate greed walmart"...You will, or you should see and understand what I'm talking about...If you don't understand thats fine, but let's not continue this until you get it, or not at all since it's not really on topic

I think we should stop forcing people to shop and work at Walmart.

Quote:Again, this just further proves what I said earlier. This generation is nothing but lazy.. Just a little research will tell you that regular bread has next to no nutritional properties, unless its 100% whole wheat, and even that can be damaging because some still sneak in flour.. Everyone wants everything done for them.. Give me money, tell me how I should lose weight, put the food in my mouth and help me chew it.. No wonder we have so many millionaires in this country because the mass of this country is stoopid and have no problem handing their money over for empty promises..

Tell me how actively your generation researched the effects of cigarette smoking. I can guarantee you that cigarettes are worse for one's health than bread.

"On June 12, 1957, Surgeon General Leroy E. Burney declared it the official position of the U.S. Public Health Service that the evidence pointed to a causal relationship between smoking and lung cancer."

So what's more dangerous to your health? Second hand smoke or taking away a smoker's cigarettes?

At least you'll live if you smell cig smoke..

Um, what? Avoiding the point I made does not discredit the point. You knock "this" generation for being too lazy to research the health risks of bread, but what about the last two generations and their lack of research on the health risks of smoking cigarettes?
