City approves scoreboard funding for Everbank

#21

Quote:Everbank is a world class facility. Why do you say we cannot host these events? The Citrus bowl expects to compete for the BCS after it's 200 million reno and it still will not be the facility that Jax municipal is.

Well, if they aren't already hosting these events, what difference is a few improved scoreboards going to make? Just asking...

Also, word of mouth up here from people that went down to Jax for the Superbowl didn't have many nice things to say about the stadium. They claimed the concourses were too narrow, the bathrooms had issues, amongst other things.

Glad to hear that the pools will not be swimming pools but instead will be unique, visually attractive water features that represent northeast Florida.

The last thing I want the camera panning in on is 4 sun burnt rednecks in jean shorts and sunburns with empty cans of Bud Light floating in the water...LOL...that would be an accurate reflection of northeast Florida also, just not the one we want the nation to see.

Largest of their kind in the world and all improvements are 63 million dollars worth.

Everbank is a nice stadium!

They wouldn't have hosted a Superbowl if it wasn't.

These big screens maybe will get peoples noses out of the smartphones...LOL.

Don't the cynics EVER let up around here?

Good points TMD but I think you fail to realize that these scoreboards will be an awesome spectacle! Combine this with the new platform that will be built by removing 7k permanent seats and the result will be a very unique stadium that will totally transform Everbank. We have to take Lambeau's gameplan for stadium management concerning stadium evolution and Khan has come up with a very cost friendly plan to transform Jax Municipal. Considering he is contributing 20 million we are really getting serious value on this renovation.

You are right about some negative reviews on our hosting of the Super Bowl. We do need an entertainment district to coincide with the sports complex and again I believe Khan will deliver something special with the Shipyards. If we can strike gold on the Shipyards we possibly could be looking at an extreme convention and tourist party district that runs from The Landing all the way to Everbank. That stretch of land is perfect for an aquarium, casino, and public parks jammed with riverfront restaurants and marina slips.

The issues with the Super Bowl were not with the stadium. We host 80k+ for FL/GA every year. We've had two FSU games (vs. Alabama and vs. WV) the last 6 years that had over 80k. We'll be okay.

How many other NFL stadiums host such a wide variety of college games and other events?

Don't know , just asking.

I would say most could. But I don't think we'll see a college football title game the first week of January in a place like Chicago, Green Bay or Foxboro.

It's really Jax, Tampa, Miami, New Orleans, Dallas, Glendale and soon to be San Fran. And whenever Atlanta builds their new stadium.

Edit: better yet, don't read it. It's pretty annoying.

If the comments section of News4Jax represents our city then we are in big trouble. I go periodically go on that site to read the comments just for the laughs; it's really remarkable.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just repeating what was said. I think it looks nice on TV, anyway...lol.

Although it probably would look better if they painted the seats in the bold gold color rather than teal.

Yeah, I have been down at the stadium in the offseason before.....down Bay st (the one with the paws painted),,,,,and I agree, there seems to be untapped potential there that could be developed into a bar/ party/ restaurant/ entertainment zone.

Fair enough. I think the stadium is fine and definitely good enough to host a BCS title game.

That's actually not a bad idea. Wouldn't mind seeing what the stadium would look like with gold seats.

It will be a VERY long time before Downtown comes around. Don't get your hopes up until FBC decides to setup shop in Nocatee.

This song has been sang a million times before.

Just don't pay for a new stadium. Don't do it Jacksonville. Don't ever do it.
