Transgender HS student wants to use female locker room

Quote:Anyways, my question was pretty straight forward. Do you think there are things out there that white males are unable to do simply because they are white or male?
Well, childbirth comes to mind immediately.

I mean I already answered it. No?

Just an example from my own profession as a sonographer:

I'm required to have a female chaperone in the exam anytime I do a female breast or transvaginal pelvic ultrasound.

Female sonographers are not required to have a male chaperone in the room when doing scrotal ultrasounds.

Would you agree that this is a double standard?

So then, knowing that males are not allowed to do ultrasounds on female reproductive organs without a chaperone while females are allowed to do similar exams on males without a chaprone....

Do you think there are things out there that white males are unable to do simply because they are white or male (outside of physical impossibilities)?

Perform transvaginal pelvic or breast ultrasounds without a female nurse in the room?

what point are you trying to get at? I bet black males in your professional have the same rules, so maybe just ask your weird questions in the form of "males".

Since everyone agreed the discussion veered into that have mental issues, they are making it up, it's all in their heads, it's just a belief. They was no animosity from either side toward the other on this initial topic so someone had to make it an issue because they feed on it.

Oh stop, there's no animosity now. Disagreement is not hate and you need to quit acting like it is.

My question wasn't "do you think there are things white males can't do because they are white males?", it was "do you think there are things whites can't do because they are white OR males can't do because they are male."

I believe there are things that white people aren't allowed to do because of their skin color and there are things that males aren't allowed to do because of their gender. His answer was no, there isn't (outside of gender physical impossibilities). I simply listed one double standard I experience on a day to day basis, which still fits the original question because of they key word OR.

So, are you ignorant enough to think that is the only gender related double standard that negatively effects men?

Eh, some of the things said in this thread, if not overtly hateful, are pretty insensitive and dismissive of transgendered people's thoughts, wishes and inclusion in society.

No, but it is just so much fun to mess with you.

Particularly the white ones. We've got it so rough.

I kinda get where you're coming from with this and, surprisingly, I don't think you're completely wrong. I think there is a bit of confusion/distortion regarding the base nature of your question, though.

I'll just say that I personally think there are very few things you are prohibited from doing due to being white. I'm sitting here trying to wrack my brain thinking of things you absolutely, positively are barred from doing because of behind white and I can't think of any off hand, although I'm going to admit ignorance here and say that there likely are (minority scholarships/grants spring to mind, but there are ways around that afaik).

There are infinitely more things you are prohibited from doing for being male. Your occupational environment is among them.

So while I don't personally disagree with your point, it does not invalidate white male privilege either when you put that against the privileges of everyone else (imo).

Scholarships/grants are a couple examples. Maybe "can't do" isn't the right phrasing, because (like you said) there sometimes ways around things.

It most definitely does not invalidate the concerns for social injustice against everyone else. I think that social injustice against minorities and women deserve the attention they get. My point is that just because white males are the most privileged demographic doesn't mean that white males are free of all social injustices. The problem is that when a white male points out a double standard or social issue that negatively affects them, they are often mocked for it and/or trivialized.

I mean, in this very thread, I brought up a double standard in my profession and within a couple posts I'm mocked by someone asking "Or did you just want to say you work with lady parts?". No, I wanted to point out a double standard in my profession that negatively affects me and I'd appreciate it not being mocked / trivialized.

Well sure, you listed one in particular where you have to deal with a chaperone just do the job you trained for. Why is that tho? Did it stem from some sexual mis-conduct on the part of a male to a female during some kind of evaluation? I don't know the reason so I'm asking.

It's unfortunate that a few sickos set a precedent that then makes these kinds of rules be put into place. Hell before 9/11 we didn't have to get practically strip searched at the airport either, but a few bad onions ruin the soup.

Generally speaking tho, I cannot think of too many instances where a male, white of otherwise, is discriminated against on the regular.

It's not just at my facility. Every sonographer I've ever talked to has the policy in place that males need chaperones for those procedures. The reason most facilities have the policy in place is to ensure female patients they are save and prevent sexual assault from happening. That's fine, I have no problem with that. The lack of a similar policy being in place for females performing exams on male patients is where the double standard exists. Are female sonographers incapable of sexually assaulting a male patient when performing a scrotal ultrasound? One would have to be incredibly naive to think that.

Furthermore, considering that breast and pelvic ultrasounds are probably about 20% of what we do, it negatively affects employment opportunities. A hospital is not suppose to be allowed to discriminate against gender, but why would they hire a female over a male when they will have to pay for the male to have a chaperone during some exams?

You ask why I bring this up. It's because this is something that I have a significant amount of personal history with and every female in the profession I have talked to agrees that the double standard exists. It's a good discussion to have with people who are unaware of double standards that negatively affect men.

"Generally speaking tho, I cannot think of too many instances where a male, white of otherwise, is discriminated against on the regular."

Just a couple things from the top of my head:

1. Sexual assaults against women are just about always treated as heinous crimes, and rightfully so. Sexual assaults against men are often trivialized with things like "he probably liked it!". A great example of this is how the public would view a 30 year old male teacher sleeping with a 15 year old female student compared to how the public would view a 30 year old female teacher sleeping with a 15 year old male student.

2. Domestic violence against women is a very oft-reported and the awareness on it is high. Domestic violence against men is often trivialized by things like "so what, men are stronger than women" or "stop being a p....".  Watch this video and tell me what you think:
