Gibson.com’s Top Guitar Solos of All Time
|
Quote:Good one, but I would take the end solo of "Who's Crying Now" over that one. It may not be complex, but it has a life. It's something that words can't describe. It's just when something is "Right" It's gorgeous. I was also thinking about the solo in "Any Way You Want it" today. Schon's just got it. The other 2 I thought of today at work were the solos from BOC's "Burning for You" and, believe it or not, REO's "Roll with the Changes". I'm pretty sure I can remember every note in both solos as if they were words to a song. And remembering the list, I gotta give them kudos for the Knack's "My Sharona". It was really pretty cool, and very long for it's time for a #1 smash hit. Pop radio still cuts it off when the play it. Screw you, Kasey Kasem. We show less advertisements to registered users. Not a fan of the guitar.
Quote:I think Bridgewater at 3 is better value than Mack at 3, yes. <div> LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Clown. </div> Quote:Its also too bad that black youth of today (and white youth too, for that matter) really don't appreciate some of the legendary black musicians as Hendrix or the or the classic Blues players....they'd rather instead look up to the little talent gangsta thug druggie rap stars instead. I get that you have these preconceived notions about the youth of today and you won't change your mind because you like to come across as some cantankerous old man type...but this is off base. The only rap star anyone I know looks up to is Jay-Z not really for his rapping so much, but for his business acumen. For the most part the black youth of today know that most rappers are basically just actors getting paid for a manufactured image. You can make your assumptions about who people would rather look up to but you're wrong. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

Everyone I know looks up to Bibby, Chief Keef, Chicago rappers and mainstream rap. I don't know what black youth you know, but I AM black youth, and I know what black people listen to. He's not wrong. Quote:I think Bridgewater at 3 is better value than Mack at 3, yes. <div> LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. Clown. </div> Quote:Lol, give me a break. Nobody looks up to Jay Z. Only reason people I know listen to Keef & Bibby is when it's time to turn up, I never doubted that anyone listens to them but I don't know of anybody that looks up to them. I've had multiple people tell me they respect/look up to Jay-Z, even if they don't like his music/think he fell off they still respect the way he goes about business. It could be a regional thing idk, but the post you replied to based off people I know/talked with about music and the post I'm replying to based off your opinion/people you know. Congrats on being a black youth, welcome to the club. ![]() Quote:Sounds like a Yngwie Malmsteen imitator. Just like Joe Satriani, all that virtuoso stuff is technically impressive but, musically, starts to sound monotonous and machine-like after a while.Well I can't stand Malmsteen, dude thinks he is the greatest thing that ever walked this Earth. But I can see what you are saying. I still enjoy virtuoso-type music though. To each his own!

If you're a fan of blues guitar jams, check out the video below. Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, from the jam sessions that preceded the recording of the Derek and the Dominoes classic album Layla. There is some extraordinary guitar work in those recordings.

Quote:It's gorgeous. Jeezus....this is a thread about best solos and you're arguing Journey & REO flipping Speedwagon favorably......whats next? Nelson? Air Supply??... ![]() Quote:Jeezus....this is a thread about best solos and you're arguing Journey & REO flipping Speedwagon favorably......whats next? Nelson? Air Supply??... The topic is best guitar solos, not song or band. Say what you want about Journey and REO Speedwagon, but you if you're knocking Neal Schon and Gary Richrath, I don't know what to tell you except Schon played with Carlos Santana at age 15, and Richrath has always been a respected guitarist. Those two can play.

Well I thought we were discussing solos. There isn't a solo in either Journey or REO Limpwristedwagon that make me go "wow thats darn impressive". I do think Journey write good songs though. I've never liked that other band. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Well I thought we were discussing solos. I was never much of a fan of either, but I've seen both bands live a little before both hit it really big and those two guys can really play a guitar, especially Neal Schon. As with many bands before their sellout they could boogie, which is all I asked during my high school days. There is no comparison between them and Nelson or Air Supply. That's just ignorance.

One Guitarist I have not seen mentioned yet it Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees)

Quote:One Guitarist I have not seen mentioned yet it Tommy Shaw (Styx, Damn Yankees) Was thinking about mentioning the solo from "Renegade", but thought I'd already gone soft rock enough with REO and Journey. See TMD's myopic posts above about same. Speaking of TMD, he actually did mention Damn Yankees. If you can remember the notes, the bends, the cadence, the theme and composition of the music, then it's probably a good solo. One poster has said he's not really into the guitar. I can respect that. What I don't get is trumping up a solo because the muscian is very good, or disparaging another because you think the band is lame. I think Poison is a lame band. But if you can remember every note of the solo from "Talk Dirty to Me", and turn the volume up when it comes on, hey, more power to you and CC DeVille! There's a reason why Lou Reed's live version of "Sweet Jane" is up there, and none of Satriani's or Vai's work made the list.

Speaking of TMD, he actually did mention Damn Yankees. I mentioned Damn Yankees, citing the solo in their song "Come again" but it wasn't Tommy Shaw, it was Ted Nugent. Shaw just plays rhythm guitar in that band, IIRC. Nugent does all lead. as for the other....I can remember every note of the solo for "Talk Dirty to me" ...does that mean its a good solo??.... :ermm: That said, CC is a sloppy player, thats my complaint regarding his guitar work as well as some of it being too simplistic. There was a few high notes for CC DeVille however....I think his solo on "Something To Believe in" was actually pretty good. "Sucess Is Not a Goal, It is a By-product"
Quote:most hip hop guys are not, you'll grow into it one day. KInd of weird. I've slowly drifted away from hip hop and drifted towards Blues music lately. I've always been in some form or another a fan of guitar. I can't play nor do I wish to be able to but I appreciate great musicians regardless.
