Bortles getting Praise

One thing I'll add that I think folks that don't MM may not be aware of is that he's a one read qb.

If he doesn't figure out how to drop back and go through progressions, good defenses will figure him out next year.

Also, his mid and long range throws are very inaccurate, he's gotta fix that, or defenses will start sitting on routes.

The guy had 2 breakout games against terrible defenses. Next year will be different. Teams will keep him in the pocket and take away the dinkers. Should be interesting to watch.

Quote:I think people are forgetting Carr is still of the David Carr bloodline. Blood wins out eventually. That, and a HC who quits on his team, I expect Carr to be de-shelling shrimp in 4 years at the local seafood shack.
Eugenics has been discredited for decades now.

Is he a more accurate Tebow?

Bortles and Carr should be about even imo. Having Carr listed all the way down at 4 is a joke.

Yeah there pretty neck and neck in terms of current and potential ability in my opinion. I think some people feel that it discredits Blake in some way by saying Carr has great potential too.

The reason I feel Blake has more potential is because he is not as refined as the others. The other four are way more polished mechanically so they are more so learning the game and finding their niche. Blake is balling with sub par mechanics. If he every really refines his talent he will be an all pro qb. I hate sounding like a homer but you don't throw 30 tds with 3 games left by accident in your second year. There is really talent there and it is shocking that it is taking people a while to figure this out.

30 tds from a second year qb who is 23 that had to change his mechanics is amazing to me especially at the NFL level. Carr is a close second but Blake is by far the one with infinite room to grow.

I like Carr and Bortles. I think Bortles has a higher ceiling. Carr has a much better line, and a much better run game, (plus he was more "pro ready" coming out) so you would expect him to have higher numbers. Bortles getting 30 tds in the situation he's in is incredible

I think that is what's most exciting about Bortles plus he's doing this with almost all the offensive weight on his shoulders. Just wait until we have a stronger offensive line and can run the ball more consistently. I expect Bortles pass attempts to drop a bit but his TD to INT ratio and completion percentage will probably improve a lot.

Also, agreed. Carr has been very impressive as well. I'd go Bortles and then Carr but not by much.

Stop saying stats don't lie. Here's a stat: Bortles is the number 7th rated passer currently you select "passing" as the category on Nfl.com's stat page.

Bortles is currently a top ten passer. Carr is not far behind at 9 (tied with Tannehill).

If you think Winston, Mariota, or (lol) Bridgewater are better, you are blatantly biased.
