Quote:So, we Jag fans are expected to believe it takes a minimum of 4 years to replace the worthless players/coaches/staff that the previous management left here, and produce a winning season ?

Obtaining more young talent/ experienced free agents will eventually produce a winner here, but in my opinion, the talent will not produce a championship here without an eventual coaching change.

Meh, yes and no. We clearly focused on offense first and we lost our first and 3rd round defensive picks to injury this year.

Dave can only build a roster so fast. That doesn't excuse poor coaching though.

DE and it's not close.

Olivier Vernon and a draft pick or two. Free safety. Defensive tackle.

DE by far. The whole D will improve exponentially with a pass rush. Colvin and House would look great.

It's really unbelievable that Dave has built this good of an offense in only 3 years. I really like his plan of attack too. Blake will be a 3rd year QB and then focus on getting the defense shored up. By year 4/5 we 'should' have an improved defense and a still young offense in their prime, that will have been together for several years.

Then of course Super Bowl after super bowl.... Obvs.

I selected FS but changed my selection. I do believe if the pass rush could've gotten home more often this season we could easily have 2 or 3 more wins....

Fowler may not come in a be lighting it up right away, I think this position needs to be addressed in the draft and free agency.

3 New pieces are needed for the "LEO" imo. (Replacements for Clem and Branch, preferably one solid veteran [W. Young]) plus another young project.

We just need one FS. Which could be accomplished in FA plus adding one in the draft.

New head coach

New defensive scheme

Pass Rush (end, tackle, backer, I don't care)

Free Safety

Olivier Vernon or Von Miller should be our top priority.

OLine and DE need to be addressed. One missed block and we'll be looking for another Franchise QB. No pressure on opposing QB's makes our Defense look like a bunch of ladies on the field.

Draft Jaylon Smith. That solves all your Poz issues ( and Im a Poz fan). Dude is big and fast. Can cover and rush.

FA your Safety and CB and OL

Draft BPA 2-7

Oh and bring Brian Kelly with Smith....that solves your Gus issue too...

And before all you ND haters go out of your minds, just know that he's +.710 win% (Saban is 750 with 10 more years) He's the opposite of Gus and not nearly the age of Tom C.

problem solved....Next!

dude... you really had me until Brian Kelly....

ND haters? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

No thanks to the coach selection.

Also I think if you target LB in the early first. and address FS in FA (again?)

you should target DE in the second, then move to BAP

I don't care about the order it happens or which is FA and which is drafted - but as long as they add another pass rusher to compliment/ rotate Fowler and land an upgrade at FS I'll feel better.

Yes - other spots need help - But those are the two I'm most focused on.

We need 2 or 3 veteran pass rushers and a draft pick or two to come in.

This is a good outlook. It's hard to say what you draft where. For instance if we go sign 3 fa DEs are we supposed to draft another in the first round? Same with any position. We know what we need, HOW we address it doesn't matter to me, as long as it's addressed.

Thoughts on Bruce Irvin?

Pass rush. Then upgrade the coverage in the middle of the field, either more speed at LB or a Deone Buchanon type of player that can sub in.

Personally, I think that's a bigger issue than deep middle (FS). I'm tired of seeing opposing RBs nick us to death and get 15yard screens on 3rd down.

Quote:Ideally we could find a playmaking pass rusher but really we just need better players across the board on defense. Telvin Smith is the only real playmaker we have. Everyone else is replaceable. When our first round pick is on the clock, if they see a CB that is a playmaker, take him. If they think the only playmaker is a DT, take him. If they think the only playmaker is a LB, take him. Find playmakers. We have a defense full of solid core guys that you need to fill out a roster. But we just dont have any real difference makers aside from Telvin. Whether it be a DE, a DT, a LB, a CB, a S... I dont care. Ideally it would be a guy who can rush the passer but if we think the next Ed Reed or Troy Polamalu is sitting there in the first round, take him!

I also think the offensive line needs upgrading. Linder is a lock. And hopefully Cann improves and will be a lock. But the two Ts and C are all replaceable.

All of this

Stay away from high-priced free agents. As tempting as it to sign someone like a Von Miller, more often than not, high-priced free agents don't pan out on their new team. This is especially true with the Jags.

Save the cap money to re-sign guys like Hurns and Robinson.

We are in no situation that we need to save cap money.

The bolded section is worthless hyperbole.

A high priced FA might be just what this young team needs.

Especially if it is at a postion of dire need (FS, DE)

Even if it misses, we have the room for a miss or two, since Dave has made most contracts team friendly.

1. Sign Olivier Vernon and kick Jared Odrick inside to DT, this would give us insane speed off the edge with bookend DE's in Fowler/Vernon, this would also allow Sen'd and Jared to create havoc up the middle, we'd have a nasty D-line.

2. Sign Trumaine Johnson- This team needs another corner that can play press man on the outside, Trumaine Johnson has the size & skills to excel in this system, the Rams can't afford to sign Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson, he should be available.

3. Sign Bruce Irvin to play the Otto position- Dan Skuta has done a decent job in this position but this defense would really take off with a freak athlete like Irvin playing the Otto, he's been stellar in that position for Seattle, stuffing the fun and generating a consistent pass rush.

4. Draft Jaylon Smith to take over for Poz- Smith is arguably the best MLB prospect since Patrick Willis; I wouldn't be surprised if he ran his 40 in the 4.5 range, that speed shows up on film as he often covers receivers, well. A linebacker core of Irvin, Jaylon Smith, and Telvin Smith is crazy athletic an and frankly frightening for most offenses that like to operate inside the numbers, which is almost every offense in the NFL (Pittsburgh, Arizona, Jacksonville, Green Bay, and Indy or the exceptions), ultimately this defense needs speed, speed, and more speed I expect it to look entirely different in 2016.
