I hope they still keep the availability for fans to go to the practice fields when the jags are practicing for free- even for a small fee would not be so bad. But what I recall whenever I went, was that the kickers would really blast one or two balls- over the field fence. Some lucky fan would always see it and be able to grab it.

Why would a change in practice facilities cause anything of the sort to occur?

Quote:The irony there is that Shad once bid on buying the Rams.

Kroenke played a shell game with his assets (moving ownership of other sports affiliates to his family members) to effectively block Khan.
Here's something to think about: how lucky are we that Kroenke blocked Khan from buying his hometown team, forcing Khan to "settle" for the Jaguars?

If Khan had been successful in buying the Rams, doesn't it stand to reason that Kroenke, whose only goal in buying a team was to be the guy that moved it to LA, would have thrown a wad of cash and an airtight NDA onto Wayne Weaver's desk?

If they charge rules say you are allowed to videotape practices, which would allow other teams to get an even bigger advantage on us

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice

Weaver had more than one interested party looking to buy the team at the time. Only Khan was willing to give any sort of guarantee that he'd keep the team here for any specified length of time.

The big concern in St. Louis when Khan made his bid for the Rams was that he would move the team having no ties to the St Louis community. When Kroenke stepped in, they saw him as their knight in shining armor.

There was another group that was trying to buy the team with a plan to keep it in STL that had MO natives involved including Rush Limbaugh of all people. Their bid was shot down early on.

At the end of the day, we ended up with the right owner.

I believe the rule is that if you don't charge, scouts from other teams can't attend, but if you do charge, they can.

So basically, nothing changed except that the 31 guys who showed up to every practice in a t-shirt and shorts anyway will now show up in another team's polo.

Any team wasting their time videoing practices during the first two weeks of training camp that's open to the public will have a whole lot of nothing to review. I don't think that's a concern.

Can't agree with this enough. I don't think people here truely appreciate just how close we came to losing this team. Weaver was looking for a way out and we just somehow got the one guy who still believed in Jacksonville and its true potential despite the loaded garbage perception we have anywhere else. Jacksonville isn't the city people think of when Florida is brought up. Miami, Orlando, Tampa THEN jacksonville.

This team is often looked at as cursed. I think Khan buying this team could be the moment everyone looks back at in 30 years as the move that turned not only the Jaguars around but possibly the city as well.

Can't wait to see whats next.

That's not ironic, that's what happened.

That being said, this project is just another step in the right direction for downtown. Good for the Jags, good for the city.

Weaver WAS looking for a way out, but he was also looking for the right opportunity. He had other inquiries he passed on. Khan agreed to keep the team here. I think that was the most critical component of the deal they made. The Weavers didn't want to see the team uprooted because they sold it.

Completely agree. I think what we've learned about Khan over the past few years is that he's determined not only to make the franchise successful, but he's intent to grow this market as well. I think we were fortunate he stepped in to replace Weaver.

No surprises here.  The Shipyards project has always been expected to be a long-term effort due to the cleanup that's going to be required, including the extent and the cost.  It's a smart move on their part to move forward with the multi-use and amphitheater renovations at the stadium.  I think doing so will actually spark movement on getting to the point where we can actually start the process of developing the shipyard property.

Indeed. The Jags would be dumb to charge for practices. If they did it would allow scouts from every team to come in. If it's no charge they're not allowed

There is no denying Kahn has been great for Jacksonville and the Jags......................with that being said though the City of Jacksonville has rolled out the red carpet for him as far as financial support. Yes it was bed tax but the city put out over $50 million towards the score boards, pools, renovations and wifi at the stadium.

When the Shipyards project hiccuped Kahn jumped to the Stadium project in a flash and again the city will contribute another $50 million of bed tax revenue.

The city has given up any rights to Stadium naming revenue and I believe the new amphitheater will be under the Jags control with Kahn receiving the revenue stream from that facility.

The city still has unfinished business with the Landing, Metro Park, and the Shipyards project. All three of these are going to have considerable costs associated with their future plans.

Like I said Kahn has been great for the team and fans but in all honesty from someone who has been in the area for better than 30 years I do not see any improvements downtown as far as growth and increased people presence.

it's great having an entertainment district adjacent to the stadium but without bars and resturants within walking distance you still have a venue where people come and go after the event.

We are turning a corner and while it is not going to happen overnight, the gameday experience is slowly going to diminish as technology and the comfort of your home (and cost) are going to trump seeing it live.

Just my two cents.................and for what it is worth the stadium upgrades have been great..........but am I the only one who thinks the pools are a little tacky?

One last thing, Kahn has made this is own personal pet project (stadium) and I don't think he would ever move the team. It is going to take awhile to build fan base though, when you see more Gator and Bulldog gear on people you know you have work to do.

Where is this guarantee you reference?  What are the specifics?

He guaranteed Weaver a $25,000,000 payout to the local charity of Weaver's choosing if he moved the Jaguars within 5 years.

Also, a student writing for the Villanova law review Center for Sports Law studied the Jaguars lease in 2013, and concluded the team will likely be here until the lease expires in 2029.

So there is no guarantee to stay, there's just a monetary penalty for moving within 5 years.

The people of St Louis give the student an "F" on his report card.
