I've heard great things about Bloodborne but I've never played any Dark Souls game before,looking for an RPG type with lots of depth,gave up on Fallout 4 months ago.

 

More depth than you will find in bloodborne they don't really tell you the story you have to dig for it.  It will take you a while to get good at and it'll frustrate you greatly till then.  At some point you will think you are good at it and get to a part that once again frustrates you but the pay off is great.  If you do get it refer back here for tips on how to progress or any help needed there are a few of us here that are pretty familiar with the games.


Take the time to read the item descriptions and the armor and weapon descriptions.

What did you pick for starting weapons?

Iv been told to pick the threaded cane by friends but I went with the axe and pistol. Lone survivor origin too.

Orgin doesn't matter too much leveling up changes everything.  With the Axe you want to level up strength more than anything and eventually switch it out for probably the kirkhammer.  This is your starting weapon you will get better ones as the game goes on but having that and being effective early basically relies on being a strength build but as the game goes on you can change that alot.  Also invest in Vitality a ton as a new player you won't die as fast.

This game made me rage quit.. Shadow of yharnam flame boss fight. Found this part to be annoying.

I actually beat that one first try usually bosses are at least 5 try's the trick is to keep moving take one out at a time

Something that's helped me is to treat that first part of Yharnam like a practice floor. Most every type of challenge you will face (at least up to the point that I am at) is there on that first level. There's mob control at the bonfires, there's beasts with the pair of wolves, there are surprise attacks in the Dark Residence, there are sneak attack opportunities, there's a hulking Executioner that you can leave alone if you'd like, and there is a boss who is really optional when it comes down to it.

 

Once I figured out that your success in the game is not really rooted in the gear that you have but rather in how good of a player you are, things made more sense. You really can pick most any origin and just about any weapon load out that you'd like; you can make them all work. What you can't do is to see how fast you can blitz through the game and just think that you're going to dominate every opponent you come across, the game doesn't work that way. You need to become a better player in order to progress in the game and that means that you need to figure out where and how you failed and fix that.

 

But that's just me.

Was playing the part at the bon fire for ages last night trying to figure out how to beat them all and after many many deaths I got by them and the guys with the wolfs only to be attacked by the massive guy. Had to rage quit but I'm going at it again tonight..loving the game.

If I ever get to a point in the game where I'm actively fighting more than two opponents, I consider that a failure. Upgrade your patience if you need to and try to draw out the enemies one at a time (throwing pebbles is good for this), and take them down piecemeal.

 

Remember, you're a hunter not a brawler. Hunt you some beasts.

at some point you can become a brawler but you aren't there yet.  you got past the bonfire and got excited and didn't search the whole area so the big guy snuck up behind you.  Always search the whole area.

ya its pretty close I think after him and the dogs you go up stairs and its on the bridge.  You can actually run buy most of the first monsters by the big bonfire but i didn't want to tell you so you would learn the game more Welcome to BB you made it through the first annoying wave without quitting entirely you are officially a FROM gamer

So I'm at a bit of an impasse right now.


I lit the Cathedral Ward lamp, but I can't seem to progress from there unless I buy the Chief Hunter's emblem to proceed. All other doors are locked to me save Old Yharnam. Any ideas?
