Agreed, but the powers that be don't see it that way, and they're the ones making the decision. Honestly, this is a trend that we've seen with a lot of teams around the league where they no longer host their own message boards, and we kind of expected this to come to Jaguars.com eventually. That day has arrived.

I've just noticed that multiple posts I've made with links to the Jaguars subreddit and Discord have had the links removed from them.

I have to think money is driving this move.

 

It can't be because of criticism.

 

First off, when you have the record the Jaguars have had over the past 10 years, you are going to get criticism even from your most loyal fans.  NFL.com and NFL network constantly criticizes the team, but the team doesn't steer people from those sites.

 

Furthermore, it's not as if shifting to facebook or some other social media site is going to stop the critiques of the team if the team is objectively performing poorly.

 

I disagree.  I have a couple of websites hosted on a server that cost a small amount of money, (especially when talking the amount of money the Jaguars put into marketing).  Running a database as well as message board software isn't all that time-consuming and doesn't cost a whole lot.

This isn't a money move.  It's a decision tied to the social media strategy the team has been developing for the past few years.  They don't see this forum as being necessary with so many other avenues already in place.  They're not averse to criticism.  They've grown to expect it because it existed even when things were going well.

 

Exactly.  What they are kind of "short-sighted" on though is the fact that this board is a resource for not only local and out of town/state fans, but also the other "home-team" fans across the pond.

He retired a few years back, and he was really the only one at the time who was fighting inside the organization to keep the board.
