Quote:But we should take him at 5 because he looks good in underwear? Yeah because none of what he showed on the combine was visible on the field... We show less advertisements to registered users. He is an elite athlete with some football skills, not an elite football player. Why? Because he doesn't register INTs?
Yeah I don't agree with that. My only knocks against Ramsey are his tackling form, his trouble turning his head to locate the ball in go routes, and his drop INTs.

Which is why he I like him more as a FS, where he can keep plays in front of him more. INTs are great, but as long as he's knocking passes (which he does do a great job on) and in general making passes difficult to complete (because of his size, length, and athleticism). And while he can improve his tackling, he's still a physical hitter/tackler. I mean, I don't get it. There's reason to think he can play physical corner in our scheme (because of his size, length, and athleticism). There's reason to think he can play nickel in our scheme (similar to Colvin's role, with run/blitz support). There's even a few who think he can play SS (I don't agree he'll be maximized in that role, but yeah I can see it). And of course he's being projected by many in the draft community to be an excellent FS. You have a guy who has the size to play either FS/SS with the speed and coverage of a corner, the physicality and length that we ask of our corners, the play run/blitz/cover we ask of our nickel. I mean, seriously, why don't people want this guy on our defense?
I'm not arguing with you, I think Ramsey is a perfect fit for our defense and can play every position in the secondary like you said. I was just listing my negatives on him. In our scheme Ramsey would be able to maximize his potential and he would be star corner right out the gate. We could even give him snaps at FS. He'd probably be a heavy favorite for DROY in our defensive scheme.

Go watch Jack against Kansas State. He was the best player on the field and it wasn't close, and that was a season ago.
I wasn't on his bandwagon but I sure am now. I'd take him, then Ramsey, then Bosa. Putting him on the same field as Telvin Smith and Dante Fowler would give us athleticism for days.

I don't know they are all saying that Jalen Ramsey will go in the top 3 now because of his performance at the combine...
If for some reason he doesn't he has to be the Jaguars #5 pick.
Chatted a bit with Prisco today at work. Believe he said we should take Myles Jack. Also impressed by Ramsey.

Maybe because while he is versatile he isn't particularly elite at any one position. All you are looking at is measurables. You watch film on elite DBs, they stand out as being dominant in the passing game. When was the last time you ever heard of Ramsey shutting down a player? If he is such a great safety why was he moved to corner after his first year. Why are some scouts not even sure where to play him? Why are his INTs/pass defensed so average? I mean I go back to that Miami game....he looked awful against the pass against a very weak Miami squad. I don't have an agenda against Ramsey. I'm just saying have a better argument than he is big/tall, runs fast, and jumps high. Where are the signature plays that don't involve blitzing or making a play on a running down? I have a question for you.Apart from Kendell Fuller and VH3 who in this class has more PDs than Ramsey in their college career?
It's a pity that Myles Jack didn't perform, looking forward to see his numbers in mid march.
Also a pity Karl Joseph wasn't fit either, the guy has great closing speed and Mayock among all the praise he gave him called him a "bullet" because of his speed. Some great athletes on the defensive side of the ball this draft. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! |
