Pats Trade Chandler Jones
|
We will have enough money next year to sign him as a free agent if the Cards can't keep him.

Quote:We will have enough money next year to sign him as a free agent if the Cards can't keep him. But what if......hypothetically speaking......we needed him this year?
Quote:This is what would have happened. Except we would have acquired a proven starting caliber player. Yeah but would that made us a playoff team this year? I seriously doubt that. Then guess what. We are stuck either trying to pay him or franchise tag him next year. And he will get way more the Vernon. And lets pray he doesnt decide to smoke spice then he gets suspended for the year. That trade is just way to risky for a team like the jaguars. The payoff just isnt as high (pun intended) as we need it to be in order to take the risk. We can draft a rusher in the 2nd and have them at low cost for 4 years when we are ready to make a run next year. Hell we may draft a player better than Jones without the drug issues.

Let's say we get a Myles Jack in the 1st and got Jones with our 2nd. Our D would have been head and shoulders better than last year. DL - Jones, Jackson, Miller, Odrik, Fowler, Marks LB - Telvin, Poz, Jack, Skuta DB - Gipson, House, Prince, Colvin, Cyp/Sample That D with our O would've made us the favorites in the South this year. Yeah I mean as much as I would have been happy to trade for Chandler Jones, don't forget that he has had some issues. I would also take into consideration that the Pats weren't going to be willing to sign him to a 2nd contract. Lastly I am happy to see that even though Dave is under some pressure, he is still not willing to sign guys to bad deals or make trades that may sacrifice our future cap situation, or deplete us of valuable draft picks, etc. I am glad that he is determined to build this team the correct way, insuring that we can be a winner year after year, instead of .500 for a year because of some off season pickups and then starting the process back over like we see so many marginal teams do year after year after year.

Our D would have been head and shoulders better than last year. Heres the thing tho, the cards are a superbowl contender. They played in the NFC championship game. That move makes sense for them. They can reach the playoffs with our with out Chandler. He may be the piece to get them to the Bowl. Us on the other hand are about 5-6 games away from just getting into the tournament. If we dont get there now we are most likely out a player because he would cost so much to resign if he even wanted to. Or a franchise tag. Then he also has drug history. I could only imagine of we missed the playoffs this year, signed hi to a mega deal next year and then he get suspended for weed again for the year lol. The city would go nuts. Thats just to much risk when you could possibly just draft Spence (I know he has drug history but it would start over once in the NFL and be cheaper) or another rusher in the second.

Quote:We are stuck either trying to pay him or franchise tag him next year. So your point is if we got a good player, we would have to pay him to stay on the team. Hmmmmm hmmmmmm, interesting...... You are right- we should probably avoid good players for this reason. Quote:Dave prob didnt want to give up a high 2nd God forbid we finally get a proven pass rusher.
Quote:So your point is if we got a good player, we would have to pay him to stay on the team. Nice cherry picking one sentence out of the entire post. The point is the jags arent at a spot where trading a high 2nd rounder for a guy who is one joint away from a year suspension on a 1 year contract and also being a 5-11 team is a good idea. You would think after Jones, William, Blackmon etc we would move pased these troubled players but some of yall are stuck on them. I remember the last time the pats moved on from a troubled player he ended up serving life in prison. They may have smartened up and decided to move him while his value is high before **** hit the fan. Quote:Dave prob didnt want to give up a high 2nd Either that or maybe we also tried to get him to restructure his contract further out than a year and he wasn't down with that. Lots of possibilities.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

We certainly aren't in position to trade a high round pick for a year rental.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
At this point, you pretty much have to look at the draft to help with the pass rush. The majority of the guys left out there are just guys.
Bosa and Fowler could be a good dou, or you could trade up or hope a guy like Spence falls to you in round 2. Just sucks relying on rookies to essentially provide your edge rush. Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me at this point if they brought Branch back. Him and Fowler were essentially supposed to provide our pass rush this year. Quote:Either that or maybe we also tried to get him to restructure his contract further out than a year and he wasn't down with that. Did we try get him? Quote:At this point, you pretty much have to look at the draft to help with the pass rush. The majority of the guys left out there are just guys. But do you really want essentially 2 rookies, and one recovering from a serious injury to save our pass rush. I dont feel comfortable with that. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:I remember the last time the pats moved on from a troubled player he ended up serving life in prison. I was beginning to understand your argument and then this gem. That's a hell of false equivalent, getting from a guy that smokes pot to a psychopathic murderer.
Quote:But do you really want essentially 2 rookies, and one recovering from a serious injury to save our pass rush. I dont feel comfortable with that. Not much choice at this point. You could try and trade for a guy who has busted so far like Mingo or Jarvis Jones but then you are relying on an injured rookie and a bust to fix your edge rush.
