Don't fear losing the #1 pick

If Dave Caldwell doesn't find a Franchise QB in the 3rd round, he should be fired. He didn't do it last year, but we'll give him a pass on that because he wanted to see what we had in Gabbert.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

You are only allowed to draft qbs with the first overall pick of the draft duh didn't you know that. Also they are guaranteed to be wildly successful. Just look at Jamarcus Russell et al. It's so easy. The only reason Gabbert sucked is cause we didn't draft him high enough.

I swear some of you don't get it.

You really like these school cutdowns. My guess is you just graduated and couldn't be more proud.

Yeah, 23 years ago. You got the cutdown by acting like an idiot. Grow up!

Nobody is saying it has to be third round, just proving to you and your buddies it does not have to be right at #1 either.

It doesn't have to be the first pick, but just because Russell Wilson and Nick Foles panned out, doesn't mean we'll be as lucky with a 3rd (or 2nd) round pick. The more choices available, the better for the Jaguars.

Just because you can find one in the 2nd or 3rd, doesn't mean you shouldn't want the option for the perceived best prospect. QB's have a pretty low success rate. The chances of finding Russell Wilson and Nick Foles is pretty low, no matter how great of a GM you have.

So because it happened last year it can happen every year? How many times has it happened prior to that?

Not to mention that those teams got lucky. Don't try to tell me otherwise either because if they had known how good Foles and Wilson would turn out to be they would have taken them in the first round. They also wouldn't have anointed Flynn and Vick the starters leading Wilson to have to win the job and Foles getting it when Vick got hurt.

No, you don't need the number one overall pick to get a good QB, but with that pick, Caldwell can get any QB he wants. There won't be any chance that someone takes the best QB before us and Caldwell will not have to settle.

Quote:No one's claiming that the players should lay down and lose their games. Its their jobs. They're not going to intentionally play bad and risk not showing up on tape and losing their career. When people speak of tanking, we only speak for us as fans. I don't care what winning five wins means, because it doesn't mean anything. Also, just because the team is losing doesn't mean the young guys aren't improving.

You don't measure the improvement of the team by wins or losses. Heck, even our Head Coach has that as our mantra. I can't explain it any better than this. If you don't get it now, you just don't get it.

Great post.

If the Ducks qb stays in school. I trust Dungy and would take Murray.

Has anyone here watched film on Jimmy Garoppolo from Eastern Illinois? Guy is a stud. I am from Charleston, Illinois where Eastern is located and I get to watch him every weekend and I would have to say that if we do not get our guy in the first round I would be more than happy to draft JG in the 3rd or 4th round. I recommend going to Youtube and watching him if you can!

I've heard a lot of good things about JG but haven't seen him play, I'll definitely check out some youtube vids. If he's as good as I've read he won't be available in the 3rd round, I can see a team like Kansas City drafting him towards the end of the 1st.

for those unfamiliar he is an intriguing prospect if he lasts to the third round - (although I hope we take a QB earlier)

Quote:
Garoppolo (6-feet-3, 222 pounds) has thrown for 4,489 yards and 48 touchdowns this season. Both figures lead all of NCAA football and are single-season Ohio Valley Conference records. The TD record had been 34, held by former EIU star Tony Romo. Garoppolo has 113 career TD passes, 28 more than Romo's previous school record. In addition, Garoppolo passed New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton to become the school's career leader in completions this season.

The 48 touchdowns are third in FCS single-season history (eight away from the record), while the 4,489 yards are fifth in FCS history (587 yards away from the record). Garoppolo also is eighth on the FCS career list for TD passes and ninth on the career passing yards list (12,595).

Garoppolo is No. 40 on NFL Media senior analyst Gil Brandt's list of the top 100 seniors. Garoppolo was lightly recruited out of high school in the Chicago suburbs and signed with EIU over offers from Illinois State and Montana State; no FBS school offered a scholarship.

I agree completely. I trust Caldwell and that he will pick the best available player on the board that will help us. I think he will find our future QB in our upcoming draft whether it is the first or fifth round.

We are officially out of the top 5 of the draft

As in, mathematically no way we are in the top 5?

If that happens we better draft another QB as well for when Manziel doesn't pan out/ gets injured by week 3.

First round will be Barr or Clowney. Second round will be one of the 3 beast TE's. 3rd round... David Fales!
