WELP: Norman

Quote:I mistakenly read the 20 mil bonus for guaranteed, so I was wrong in my phrasing I admit. But my point is, we weren't willing to throw that money at Vernon which is why we didn't match the Giants... so it's fault to use that argument for why we should've thrown that money at normanHow do you know we didn't throw that money at Vernon? Was it ever disclosed as to how much we offered? Dave was ready to give Vernon a monster contract since we were battling with the Giants. We show less advertisements to registered users. Well the fact that he's playing for the giants is my first clue. I know he wasn't big on Jacksonville in the first place, but come on lol. I'm sure we were willing to pay big, but nothing makes me believe we were willing to pay that big.
I'm personally glad that we did not give those hefty contracts to either Norman or Vernon. It's not like our defense would have been complete anyway. I'm sure the Jaguars will make a significant leap in their performance for this year. As far as the defense is concerned though, I'd say we are an additional offseason away from rebuilding it completely. When the 2017 season rolls around, I'd say we will have rebuilt the team completely on both sides of the ball. I'm anticipating a deep playoff push next year. 9-7 should be the goal this year.
Quote:So glad we didn't go after him. Dave is the best And why are you happy again? Do we have any Cbs worth ranking in the top 5 of Cbs?? I dont think soo.. Dont be happy with Caldwells lack of aggresiveness.. Quote:And why are you happy again? Dont blame him, its just alot on here have accepted mediocrity for so long its all they know. Why do you come here and [BLEEP] non-stop about every move? We have been bad the past decade because Coughlin put us in salary cap hell, over spending on free agents that would never live up to the money we spent. Norman would not have won us a super bowl, just take a deep breath, and get over yourself.

Quote:Jags made mistake not getting normon. He could've helped them contend for the playoffs now instead another loseing season is guarnteed. 4-12 while Normon helps Redskins to Super Bowl.Please... Just stick to the pep rally posts.. At least they're entertaining, albeit in a sad sort of way... ![]() We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:What are 5 things your looking forward to next season Bklyn?1.Bortles progression. He should take a big step this season being in the same system all offseason. 2.Want to see improvement from the defense. I just do not see it happening. Malik Jackson is good but if anyone thinks he solves the pass rush woes are delusional. Aside from House, CB position very average. Thats why Norman should have been a priority. Gratz is not even worth a roster spot but he will more than likely stick with the team. Let that sink in. 3. Would like to see the oline progress? Who will be playing center? LT? 4. Looking forward to see the Yeldon/Ivory combo. 5. Most of all, i want to see WINS. Im tired of seeing the same crap, year in, year out. Time for excuses are over.
Let's be real with ourselves. Caldwell was willing to overpay for Norman, but he wasn't willing to write him a blank check. He is 28 years old so he is still in his prime.
He probably only has 2 real good seasons in him then father time will set in. I'm sure we offered a similar Contract as Washington, but Norman probably wanted a big city instead of the Jacksonville.
75 million for a 29 year old player with 1 great season under his belt, sorry, Dave Caldwell did the smart thing. Free Agency has got to be the most overrated, overblown concept of improving a team. Sure, can improve your roster, sure, it excites the fans and moves the needle. But many teams have found themselves in trouble because of over paying for players, this team included. Not only can it get you into cap mess, but a lot of times, these players get paid, then check out. Josh Norman has nothing else to play for now. He got 50 million guaranteed and has been to a Super Bowl.
The Carolina Panthers are not stupid, a team with a great GM, known for getting things done and getting the most out of what he has would not of simply dumped not only one of their best players, but one of the best CB in the NFL if something was not up. It just does not make sense. At the very least, you get Norman for 1 year on a franchise tag and dont tell me he would of not signed that. He would of got almost 14 million, and while he would of held out, would of eventually signed. Those paychecks for those luxurious lifestyles need to pay the bills too. The Panthers gained nothing either way, something internally is wrong. Norman is either a character risk, or simply put, might not be worth the money he got. Having too much cap is a good problem to have. It is better to set yourself up for the long term rather than spend it all at once because "its not your money and you're a fan and you want it now". Only one team wins the Super Bowl, the short term is not always the right way to go. Am I saying Norman would of not helped the team? No, but at the same time, risking all that cap on one player especially with the hit you take, plus his age, plus the risk of him being a fluke, plus his attitude, theres a lot at stake. This is not Madden, you cant just sign or trade for a player and they bring you guaranteed success. The Jaguars, whether you believe this or not have many building blocks that surround the team. We have the QB ( won't be cheap), we have the WR(won't be cheap), we have another good receiver, we have Telvin Smith all of our own player we want to lock up, and without cap, its tough to keep your players, especially if you do become a playoff team. Money is what drives players, we lost Vernon because the Giants offered him more, period. Championships and pride are BS and next fiddle to money. Id rather invest in Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Telvin Smith etc then spend it on some player who was not our own and has all the said risks I mentioned above. Plus, you need cap if you want to buy players next offseason or the one after that. My point is, spending 15 million a year, 50 million guaranteed for a 29 year old CB is probably not ideal for the Jaguars, who are an up and coming team with their own players to worry about down the road. FYI, that cap we have, just remember, Bortles will be a 20 million a year man if we are too keep him, Robinson will be wanting to be paid like a top 5 receiver if he continues to play the way he is. That cap we have will dribble down unless we are careful. Smarter to invest down the road than it is to spend immediately. Dave Caldwell was smart to not go after Josh Norman. It wasnt the lump sum i dont think Norman was looking for tho.. And who knows how much Bortles will command? He could stink this year and lose value.. If you have revenue and you are a consistently bad team with bad talent its gonna cost you to get talent here point blank... Hell we havent had a decent CB here since Mathis almost 10 years ago. I respect Caldwell tho for putting his offer on the table. I just wish the terms were better. |
