Leonard Floyd

I don't see that type of player being worth the top 5 pick. I just don't see Floyd as a top 5 pick. Top 20 sure. We need to stop trying to outsmart the draft and just take Bosa or whatever.

Quote:Too bad Floyd plays nothing like Jamie Collins.According to you he's Von Miller. Quote:I feel like this kid is being slept on. I see a lot of potential. It will be interesting to see what he posts at the combine. I see a lot of Von Miller in him. He is lean but has an explosive first step and bends the edge better than any player in this year's draft. He can run with tight ends and plays the run well at the linebacker position. Smooth athlete. I think he would be a great OTTO and addition to this defense. Depending on his combine numbers I would not mind drafting him at 5. He put a lot more pressure on the QB than his 4.5 sacks show and is extremely versatile. And this. Quote:

We need to stop trying to outsmart the draft and just take Bosa or whatever.I don't think Caldwell is trying to outsmart anyone. All he's done since he's gotten here is build up the talent on this team and put us in position to be one of the premier young teams. Floyd fits this defense to a tee as the OTTO, we lack at edge rusher and he can come in and go opposite Fowler on passing downs and give us very solid coverage at LB along with elite speed/athleticism, something this team sorely lacked. He'd be a good pick. Would prefer to get him at 7 or 8, but ultimately get your guy. Also, I'd surely take Jamie Collins at 5.
Quote:Everything is pointing to Jack having a terrible knee injury that will shorten his career. So why would you be upset if we passed on him?Tell me something, do you believe EVERYTHiNG you read on the internet?

Quote:Tell me something, do you believe EVERYTHiNG you read on the internet?I don't, but when all these people who are paid to find out this information say it, and Myles Jack himself comes out and starts talking about possibly needing the surgery a few years down the line, why should I think otherwise? Serious, why? Go read his statement and get back to me. Surely didn't sound like a guy that was confident that he can play 8+ years without needing this serious and career threatening surgery. Go look back at any of my posts from a couple weeks ago when there was that anonymous source who said his knee was a ticking time bomb. I was one of the few who constnatly shot it down, but it gets to a point where it's hard to think otherwise. You think I want to believe that our top option at 5 most likely with elite upside likely won't be our guy at 5 due to a career threatening condition? I mean come on. I've seen what others have said. Most of those guys will say whatever to get someone to fall to them. It's called lying season for a reason. Now to what he said, he was very indirect about his statements. He never gave a timeline, he said it's possible as an athlete that he may have to have the surgery. It could even be after his career is over in 8+ years. Putting too much stock in things read on the Internet is pure idiocy.

If we take him at 5 tomorrow I'll be one of the most ecstatic people around. If we dont, all this that's being said is what our doctors see. I hope you realize this. Quote:According to you he's Von Miller.Seeing a poor man's version of Mack and Miller in him does not mean I want him to be our pick at 3 especially after his test numbers. Top 15 ok. Top 5 no. He is also already 23 and will be 24 later this year. This would be an epic failure of a pick. "A man with no sauce is lost.

Quote: Myles Jack himself comes out and starts talking about possibly needing the surgery a few years down the line, why should I think otherwise?I think it's just the word usage when you said "everything is pointing to terrible knee injury." These two quotes don't really seem to jive to me. The "possibility of needing surgery a few years down the road", but perfectly healthy at the moment and maybe forever who knows, doesn't really sound like a terrible knee injury to me. I can't see much of a Jamie Collins comparison to be honest both on the field and as athletes.
Floyd is 6'6 and at combine was 244 but didn't play at that weight, Collins is 6'3 and 250 lbs and is a totally freakish athlete who registrered a 41 and half vertical jump, 11 ft and 7 in as broad jump, 4.59 40 yards with a 1.58 10 yard split at the combine. How we did not draft him in a terrible 2013 class is still beyond me. Not saying Floyed isn't athletic or is not good but is nowhere as complete as Collins who is an elite athlete and a fantastic football player all around.
Suppose Myles Jack is off our board. Then suppose we had three favorites- Bosa, Ramsey, and Jack, and felt assured, with QBs going 1-2, that one of those 3 would fall to us. Now with Jack off our board, we only have 2 favorites and are no longer assured one of them will fall to us. So maybe that's where Floyd comes in. Maybe, Dave feels like if Bosa and Ramsey are off the board, we need a backup plan because Jack isn't it. Enter Floyd.
He does seem to fit a need for us: linebacker, speed, pass rush. And he is the consensus 10th to 15th rated player on everyone's list. So it wouldn't be that much of a reach to take him at 5. Or maybe Dave anticipates trading down a few spots. That's the way I see it. Then again, take my opinion with a grain of salt because I probably was one of the ones who defended picking a punter in the 3rd round. I'm just that way. What would be really neat is if Dave is just playing games with everyone, leaking that he likes Floyd, just to get the Jags a little pre-draft publicity.

@jasoncole Have had 3 GMs say that Georgia LB/DE Leonard Floyd will end up in the top 10 tonight. Project him as best potential right end/pass rusher

I'd be OK with Floyd. Hopefully he can add some weight to that lean frame though. He looks like he can get after it and is a good tackler which is a lost art these days.
