When the best defense that segment of the board could muster is to say that he'd be an immediate starter, the argument was lost.  That was always such an odd, random selection. Almost like he just reached into a hat and pulled out a name, or he let some random Joe on the street make the pick.

A smart owner hires the right people to do the job, and doesn't interfere unless the business requires him to fire personnel at the top for failure.  The question is will he fire GM Dave Caldwell should the team not win say 7 games this year, or continue to have faith in the process of success with him at the helm.  I am rooting for Dave Caldwell & Gus Bradley but at the same time if the team continues only to get another 4 wins again this year changes should occur with the both of them.

 

I would be surprised if Dave Caldwell got fired if Gus does actually end up being fired because of another under-performing season.

 

Sure Dave has missed on some picks and some FAs, every GM out there does, but he has definitely drafted some good NFL players in his short time here.

 

IMO, Dave has earned the right to stay and hire a second HC and be here through his tenure, but, it's not up to me.

 

I believe Shad will see it that way though.
