Do you think the NBA is rigged?
|
I'm waiting for Byron Left Town to weigh in. He seems to be the board's resident conspiracy theorist. (See political thread - he thinks the Orlando killings were faked. Yes, really.)
I loved snowolf's great insight - it's got to be rigged, it's all over the internet. Well then ...
The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

Quote:How has this been proven? To the casual-seasonal fan who periodically watch maybe 2-6 games a season and only watch the premier teams, their sentiment about the NBA is not a surprise in my opinion . If they only see highlights and games of Golden State/ Cleveland, OKC then they will tend to develop a view that only those teams are supposed to win. I never really get into a discussion with those type of fans because they dont watch the NBA enough to understand that teams like the Warriors, Cavs, and Thunder are more talented than the likes of the Blazers, Clippers, Heat and Raptors, etc.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.

Green had it coming. I don't even watch the NBA year round and just from seeing how Green played between OKC and CLE in the play-offs was enough to warrant his suspension. He's overkill when it comes to fouls and aggressiveness. As far as it being rigged? I don't know. Maybe. I think it depends on which side you stand on. People cry that LeBron gets away with a lot of stuff. But, then again, it can be argued that the Warriors get away with a lot of illegal screens and picks being set-up to let Curry and Thompson get away with easy 3's. -

If Westbrook/Durant kicked a Warriors player in the groin like Green did in that same situation would they have been suspended?
No of course not. When you hit certain heights or popularity as a player you get calls that other people don't.Happens in most sports leagues in one form or another. Big teams/players/coach's get away with more than the smaller teams/players/coach's ,its just the way it is,has been like that for years and years. Doesn't mean its rigged. Quote:If Westbrook/Durant kicked a Warriors player in the groin like Green did in that same situation would they have been suspended? So instead of saying it's rigged I suppose the correct term would be favoritism? If that's the case. It's still a poor way to handle sports at any level. I sadly agree with you. It's been like that for decades for certain across all sports really. Sure, it doesn't mean it's rigged. But, that doesn't make it right either. All players should be called and judged fairly in their respective fields of play. Superstars shouldn't be handed a free pass just because they're driving up more revenue than other players or franchises'. That's honestly a disservice to the sport itself, but, most of all, a disservice to the paying fan base and customers that are the life blood and backbone for all sports and franchises to exist in the first place. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? Human error from refs is just as much part of sports as everything else.Humans are able to be tricked, deceived and sometimes make emotionally charged decisions. Most refs in most sports try to make fair and rational decisions but like every human they too are prone to mistakes. Its just the way it is. Being able to make an objective, fair and correct decision in a split second is far far harder than people think. Slip me a $20 or a $100 here and there and I'll look the other way. If I am betting $1,000 on you to win this game in Vegas I'll penalize the entire opposing team just for looking at me. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? We all know the dangers and pitfalls in the game, so how will all of the actors respond?
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!
Quote:Being able to make an objective, fair and correct decision in a split second is far far harder than people think. Agree -- and given the speed & physicality of the NBA on each play, I'd have to say that's the most difficult sport to ref. Quote:Green had it coming. Cleveland came back from 3-1, same way that GS did in the conference finals.

I just wanted to come in an apolgize to everyone here. I was being a very bad sport. I just didn't want to see the 96 bulls record broken. Yes it was,and wasn't. Even the warriors own players said dureing the season 73 wins means nothing without the tittle. also my dad told me that the 96 bulls only lost 2 games in the playoffs as well plus won the tittle. I still don't like the cavs, but am glad bulls record stays. Again i apolgize for being a bad sport. Also think about it to from our Jags,if Jags ever broke a nfl record of any kind would you want someone else to come along, and brake it? I hope most of you say no so you can understand why i was fussing so much, still no excause to be a bad sport though.

I doubt this will ever happen, but wouldn't it be awsome if our Jags did what pats couldn't do by going undeafted, and winning the Super Bowl. Again I apolgize. snowwolf titans owner in madden. note titans owner means im undeafted againest them. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!

The NBA would be infinitely more interesting if the playoffs were a single elimination tournament but that's never going to happen due to the amount of money the league would lose. For me, the only sport that should use a 7 game series format is baseball. NBA Basketball was my favorite sport growing up until the late 90's but my interest has dwindled to basically nil. The NBA feels rigged at times and whether it truly is or not, the fact that many people feel this way means the NBA has a problem. They may not care as long as the money keeps rolling in though.
And it may not have been a league wide conspiracy, but that one ref Tim Donaghy years ago was convicted of fixing games or attempting to do so, so it has actually been rigged in recent memory. He claimed the whole league was fixed but you have to take his comments with a grain of salt at this point.
Quote:it is rigged for goldon state. the only reason finals has gone 7 games is cause the nba wants to increase thier rateings for it. its not high enough for them. they think a 7 game series will attract more fans. they are wrong, they lost a fan. I'm not supporting a sport thats fixed like the nba. Exactly. The NBA is more about the exhibition of basketball (think Harlem Globetrotters), plus individual players & stats (Michael Jordan) than it is about teams and winning/losing. I have been trying to prove this for 25 years. EVERY series get stretched for more $$ revenue - after half the league makes the playoffs anyway. No thanks I am not participating nor supporting this scam. I also think wrestling is fake.

I can think of 4 NBA finals within the last 25 years or so off the top of my head that were sweeps. There are also too many sweeps to count during the rest of the playoffs. So, you say EVERY series gets stretched. That is a lie. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Now you are agreeing with snowwolf's conspiracy theories about the NBA? You sure are something... You would have to be intentionally ignorant to deny the NBA's desire to stretch out the playoffs. It's pretty blatant sometimes. Makes betting easier though. Not helping the NBA's "plausible deniability" is when a ref comes out and confirms the games are rigged...
