Pass Rush 2016
|
Fowler did drop back a good bit but when he was at Lb most if the plays you saw him make were against the run. Off the top of my head I don't remember him being too great in pass defense. Fowlers deal is simple, he's still a rook that's trying to get used to the speed of the game and when he doesn't immediately beat his guy, he starts freelancing. Just wait until he gets it and starts setting up moves on the oline, he did that so many times and made some guys look bad
Chicken nuggets is like my family.

I don't think Fowler is a bust, but anyone with eyes can see he is not getting any pressure right now. The tackle for the second straight week just pushes him off after he attempts the spin move. I am hoping he tries something else in the 3rd game, and manages a sack to get his confidence going.

His spin move in Madden 17 is beast though

This just isn't accurate. He never had a chance in the jets game because Fitz got rid of the ball too fast. Still, he actually beat his man on 3 occasions (LT 1 time, RT 2 times). On another play he looked like he was getting around the RT but then stopped. He wouldn't have gotten a sack, but he could have pushed Fitz into the DTs for a sack. I didn't get it. Now, the same move that worked in the jets game didn't work against the bucs. They were ready for it. He'll have to adjust. But he is doing fine.
Still need to improve on the interior push.... a pocket is forming from the outside rush, but the QB is still stepping up and getting rid of the ball most of the time.

I think the pass rush will be fine. A good pass rush tends to be a cumulative effect over the span of a game and/or season. You're not going to see that in pre-season because we're trying to look at players and aren't really on any kind of rotation. We might get a better idea on Sunday night, but I still don't think you're going to see the pass rush mature until game 5 or 6. We'll see.

Yeah I still which we would have signed a veteran pass rush defensive end! Dwight Freeney I believe is still available. No on Greg Hardy! Rookie pass rushers just don't usually perform that great! Khalil Mack for example. 4 sacks as a rookie in 2014 then 16 in 2015! I'm excited about future of Fowler and Ngakoue but 2016 is probaly going to be underwhelming!

Mack only had 4 sacks his rookie year but he was still a beast and won defensive rookie of the year. Its funny how thats all a lot of people talk about is the number of sacks.
Also, lets see what Fowler does in a whole game. If he can keep the intensity level high throughout the game he will break through. This kid is a beast, just have to keep him energized the whole game.

Plus, Yannick and Fowler are incredibly versatile due to their athleticism. A creative DC should be able to come up with all sorts of blitz packages. Those won't be seen in preseason. It is all vanilla. Quote:Exactly! Plus, Yannick and Fowler are incredibly versatile due to their athleticism. A creative DC should be able to come up with all sorts of blitz packages. What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
So let's pose this hypothetical question:
If Fowler is better suited to play Otto (as some feel he is) that would pose a very impressive and fast LB group of Fowler, Jack, and Telvin. Yannick would then take over as Leo for Fowler. Is Yannick strong enough against the run to be a 3 down Leo? I don't think he's there yet, and then our depth behind him at the Leo is very suspect. Right now we have Fowler and Yannick as the main two. Would the group of Yannick, Smith, Werner/Holmes be sufficient for Leo in the event Fowler is moved to Otto? For the record, I think Fowler should stay at Leo and will have success there after he gets some real game experience.

Quote:So let's pose this hypothetical question: Fowler would be intriguing at the lotto position, I can see Gus using him in the same way Mike Zimmer uses Anthony Barr, an edge-setter, blitzer, pass rusher, in coverage etc...., just a jack of all trades. We have 3 dynamic explosive players (Fowler/Jack/Ramsey) at each level of the defense that can play multiple roles, it gives Gus & Walsh a lot of flexibility. Quote:That's why I pointed out the 3 pressures in the first 8 passing downs that occurred vs the bucs. I think that's a very positive sign that we will see adequate pressures and hurries from this unit. I'd be interested to see what the ratio of pressures to pass plays is for a team like Denver

It seems if nothing else he can teach the young guys.
