Jack at WLB this week

The problem with zone is gaps will always appear when you have lots of time to throw.

In a 3-4 Odrick and Jackson would be DEs.
MLB - Poz, Telvin probably OLB- Fowler , Jack In reality we are really unequipped to be a 3-4 no matter how you slice it. Telvin isnt big enough for MLB in that scheme. Jacks not really a pass rusher.
Quote:In a 3-4 Odrick and Jackson would be DEs.Did you bother to read any of the previous posts? The most likely 3-4 lineup has been posted numerous times, and actually shows the Jags have great personnel for it.

The Jaguars are more stocked up front than at the linebacker level. That was how Dave Caldwell attacked free agency - for the 4-3 defense with a Leo.
I would applaud a new coaching staff that employs a 3-4 scheme. Odrick, Miller/Marks, Jackson would be a formidable line and have Fowler/Ngakoue and Skuta/Davis as the OLB's and Telvin/Jack/Poz on the inside. What's the worst that can happen? We give up first downs and touchdowns? That's all we've done on defense since Gus got here.
No pain, no gain.

Quote:The Jaguars are more stocked up front than at the linebacker level. That was how Dave Caldwell attacked free agency - for the 4-3 defense with a Leo.Right. I understand they are stacked up front. The players up front Fowler and Ngakoue (DE's in a 4-3) are perfect OLB players in a 3-4 scheme. Agree or no? Are Jack/Poz/Telvin great for the inside linebacker spots? For example, YOUR second favorite team the champion Broncos use the 3-4. Who are the OLB's? Ware and Miller. The inside linebackers from last year? Marshall and Trevethan. Yes, Telvin may be undersized. Again, another example the Cardinals use Deone Bucannon as an inside linebacker who is identical in size as Telvin. It is proven that Malik thrives in the 3-4 DE position. Miller can play NT. Marks and Odrick can play the DE. Is the depth adequate right now for an immediate conversion? Absolutely not. My point is, although the team looks good for a 4-3 it is obvious that we have the talent for a 3-4 conversion. A 3-4 defensive scheme coach may like to be here because of this.
The results would be the same whether we line up in a 3-4 or a 4-3, it's the same players just lined up differently. We would need a complete overhaul with our defensive philosophy aka new coaching staff.
However, if we can get a consistent pass rush, the defensive scheme will be applauded. No scheme is successful without a pass rush. If Fowler and Ngakoue can't rush the passer in a 4-3, lining them up in a 3-4 won't change that.
Quote:In a 3-4 Odrick and Jackson would be DEs.Incorrect, Jack would be the other MLB. At UCLA, when they were in a 3-4, Jack played MLB next to Kendricks. With Barr and Zumwalt playing OLB respectively.

We just cannot let Jack sit on the sideline to learn the MLB position. That's ridiculous. He needs to be on the field as much as possible. He's too much of an impact player

Anybody watch Jack's post-game interview? Listen to the language he uses at the end of the interview RE: wlb....it sure sounds like he may be starter at that position in the very near future.

Replacing Telvin would be one of the most idiotic things this staff could do. Telvin was, and still might be the best defensive player on our team. I don't understand why Telvin just can't play OTTO or SAM? I mean I literally don't understand, so can you mb football intellectuals tell me why we simply cannot have Telvin and Jack on the field at the same time?
"Scheme" > Personell seems like a really dumb argument get em both out there
Didn't Jack get caught peeking on a few play action passes, allowing receptions? I feel like I saw people mention that more than once.

I think having Telvin and Jack on the field iS the goal, atleast i hope. Jack seems to be getting groomed to take over at MIKE. Telvin is a little too small to play at SLB/SAM/OTTO. That LB needs to be able to take on blocks from a pulling guard or a tackle. Telvin'S strength is his speed, and it would be negated on the strong side. Daryl Smith made a great SLB because he was strong and built like a tree. Jack is built to play SLB, I think. I think Jack should play nickel though and eventually, middle. He's a modern day MLB in a 4-3 scheme.
