** The Official Hurricane Matthew Thread **

Riding it out at the beach. We have a life safety plan. The house will easily withstand the wind loads but we might end up with water in it. Rising water will be our biggest threat but it will come relatively slow as we are closer to the intracoastal than the ocean. Therefore not putting us in eminent danger that we cannot get away from.. We will egress to higher ground mid storm if required.

How will you get to higher ground if bridges are shut?

Good luck to you and you family. Do you know, is it possible to drive in 70+ mph wind?

I meant for him to get to higher ground from the beaches with bridges across the intracoastal waterway shut, but you should be okay.

Something I thought interesting from nhc.noaa.gov while reading about Hurricane Nicole:

"A climate note:  This is the first time since September 10, 1964 that two Category 2 (or stronger) hurricanes have occurred
simultaneously in the Atlantic basin west of 65W.  Interestingly, those hurricanes in 1964, Dora and Ethel, were in similar positions
as Matthew and Nicole are now."

My home is at 9 ft above sea level. Our emergency go to is my brother in laws home which is 15 ft above sea level but it is a two story if the surge gets that high which we believe it won;t come to that. it's a couple blocks away.

You can, it's obviously not the best of circumstances but we will move slowly if need be. we are actually at Jax bch on the island, not Queens.

Latest update has it more east and offshore. Hopefully the track keeps moving in that direction!

Latest First Coast News suggests hurricane is shifting eastward and moving from a category 4 to 3. Great news, but still chance for it to move west. Would not want to be near the beaches. If you're west of 17, you should be fine.

I just saw a prediction showing 130 mph winds in Jacksonville tomorrow.

Checking in from port orange, been pretty calm so far.  Outer bands seem to all be green and yellow on the doppler.  Should see some more chaotic weather shortly.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

I'm not sure if anyone posted the First Coast News Hurricane Live Blog information link.   In case it hasn't been posted,  it's as follows:

There is no "if" about it. A storm like this has not hit the area for well over a century...it's not moving that far east. If you haven't left for your brother-in-law's yet, go NOW! You're not safe at home...and you might not even be safe there... but at least there's a chance to survive there.

Thinking about all you guys. Stay safe out there. As you're dealing with this please know ... the Jags won last week.

You all must make it so you can cheer the Jags on in Chicago ...

You're Welcome.

Good grief that's insane. We had 45mph winds last week and it felt rough.
