Jags 2017 draft picks
|
Quote:I don't think our offensive lineman are all that bad. Parnell seems to be the biggest weak link right now on the right side but you won't see this team drafting a right tackle in the top five. If I had to guess how this draft plays out, depending on the next coaching staff that comes in and/or general manager. I am thinking (Only doing the first three rounds). While I'm not a huge fan on taking a QB this year, I would take Watson if he falls to the second in a heartbeat.
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Same. I don't know if he will fall but it does happen. I have watched them play a few times this year. He's a little scary at times with the turnovers in the passing game. Hopefully he can tone that back a little bit more this year down the stretch. Curious to see how he plays out in a play-off game not too far from now heading into the draft. I think the next staff will keep Blake but they're not joined at the hip with him and they're still going to need an insurance policy. That's why I wouldn't mind even Kizer in the top five next year if they feel he's capable of making NFL caliber reads and throws in their system. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I, who was born in a naked land and bred in the open sky. The subtle tongue, the sophist guile, they fail when the broadswords sing; Rush in and die, dogs - I was a man before I was a king."
Quote:You're giving Linder and Beachum no cred whatsoever.Beachum sucks, but we may have to endure him for another year. I think he was saying we should draft a Center, not to replace Linder, but to give us some quality depth at the position. That is something we are sorely lacking all along the O-Line.
Watson and Kizer suck and Kelly is a career backup at best. We're better off with what we have now.
Right now I'd go
1) Myles Garrett - Edge - TAMU (if he is there) Best player in the draft. 2) Ethan Pocic - OC/OG - LSU Possibly the best interior OL in the draft. A combination of Pocic, Linder, and Cann would make a good group. 3) David Sharpe - OT - UF Local kid who is massive (6'6" 357). He plays LT for UF but I would groom him to play RT. Has openly expressed his desire to play for the Jags. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Right now I'd goGarrett is my top pick as well. But let's assume he goes #1 overall. Who do you like better...Fournette, Allen, Peppers or another?

The top priorities by far during the draft and free agency are to upgrade the offensive line and find a replacement for Bortles. This team has enough talent at the other positions to win next year. It hurts a lot to accept the fact that Blake is a bust, but Caldwell needs to admit his mistake and move on. See what Allen can do and if he shows promise he can compete next year with whichever free agent they pick up. At this time, I would consider the following:
Free agency: Cut Parnell and replace him with the best free agent right tackle available. Beachum should improve run blocking next year so starting tackles are set. Draft: Jags likely will be picking 2nd or 3rd . If Cleveland passes on Garrett, he is the pick. The best chance the Jaguars have to win soon is to build an elite defense since the best they can achieve at quarterback is to find a game manager who won't lose games and demoralize the rest of the team. A defense with Garrett, Yannick, Fowler (he'll get better), Jackson, Smith, Jack, Colvin, Cyprien and Gipson would be top 5 and keep the Jags competitive regardless of who they play. Take the best interior lineman in round 2 and make them an immediate starter. Either Feeney, Pocic or Elflein should be there at guard/center. A starting offensive line with Beachum, Feeney, Linder, free agent, and Cann would be a big upgrade and enable Yeldon/Ivory to find holes and make it easier for the new q.b. to succeed. The remainder of the draft would add depth at linebacker, cornerback and defensive line.
Jonathan Allen is a monster. Would love to snag him at pick 3.
Shock the world

But if they look the part and can play the part. One of them will end up a Jaguar more than likely here in about five months. A lot of people felt Wentz wouldn't be ready to play coming out of college. He's proven most scouts to be foolish after what Doug Pederson has done with him. Prescott fell to the fourth round and he's now manning the best team in football at the moment. Anything is possible. I am just saying man, as a fan, most of you on here need to start looking at some of these players highlight videos or getting familiar with one of them. ![]() "What do I know of cultured ways, the gilt, the craft and the lie? I am just saying man, as a fan, most of you on here need to start looking at some of these players highlight videos or getting familiar with one of them. You're comparing apples and oranges. More people liked Wentz than you think. He was my top QB in last year's draft and I had him as a top 5 guy. There is no Carson Wentz in this draft. Watson and Kizer "don't look the part". I've seen both multiple times this year and they simply don't impress me at all. I'll take Bortles over them any day of the week. Kelly has some potential, but he needs to develop better vision in the pocket and that is something that just comes naturally to some guys. You either have it or you don't. As for Prescott, yes, he has surprised a lot of people, particularly with his arm strength and accuracy. These are areas where Watson and Kizer are sorely lacking.

Has openly expressed his desire to play for the Jags. Oh please no. I've had enough of watching him as a gator fan. I'm hoping he leaves early so I don't have to watch his poor play any more. I have to imagine the theme of this offseason will be beefing up both lines. That said, I really really hope that Cleveland pulls a Cleveland and passes on Myles Garrett.
As for the OL, I still really hope that Orlando Brown Jr. comes out early. Brown is MASSIVE, coming in at 6'8" 355lbs and last I checked has not allowed a sack this year. He is only a redshirt sophomore but I am hoping he will come out due to this being a weak OT class. He has been playing LT for Oklahoma, but I think I would release Parnell and slide Brown over to RT. Then sign a vet interior OLmen (for instance Pouncey is MIA releases him to clear cap space) and our running game should easily improve. Can you guess who here is Orlando Brown? ![]() OL : Beachum - Cann - Pouncey/FA - Linder - Brown Jr. DL : Fowler/Ngakoue - Miller - Jackson - Garrett YAAAAS

Jonathan Allen would be my pick. Jabrill Peppers and Jamal Adams are also options but I honestly think we are "OK" at the secondary spot. The Defensive Line and Offensive Line need more attention. As broken as Bortles seems to be right now, I think we should see what he has next year under a new coaching staff. Perhaps get a late round flyer on Baker Mayfield if we can snag him in the 5th for competition.
