Jags expected to reach out to Coughlin
|
Quote:Someone please inform this psycho chick that SW predicted a 2-14 record in the midst of mega media and fan hype. As far as I'm concerned, he is Nostradamus. If the Jaguars lose the remaining games, IMO, this will go down as the top prediction I've seen on the Jaguars Forum/ MB in the close to 14 years I've been participating here. Even the Jaguars fans that are normally very pessimistic about the team didn't see a season like this coming. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! Quote:Why do people keep citing his age? He doesn't have to coach into his 80s like Joe Paterno. He can come in for a few years and change the culture and potentially groom a HC-in-waiting. That's my take as well.
I wasn't aware of SnowWolf's prediction...that's pretty impressive. Gus and company are doing everything they can to make him look like a genius.
Have you seen my baseball?
Quote:Coughlin as a Director of Football Operations, yes please. What exactly does a director of football operation do again??
Eugene Frenette @GeneFrenette
Odds put out today by @BovadaLV make Tom Coughlin even-money to be the #Jaguars head coach in Week 1 of 2017. Stunning number. 1:32 PM - 7 Dec 2016 · College Park, GA 8 8 Retweets 14 14 likes We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:Also in this silly age argument, why are people forgetting Joe Paterno was 85?Joe Paterno was only 85 one year. Before that I think he was like 70 or something. And someone said he aged more than 5 years in one year. Regards................the Chiefjag Quote:What exactly does a director of football operation do again??Hopefully not a ton. Be a figurehead that sets the disciplinarian tone we all want in a new regime, and definitely hires the next GM and tandems to hire the HC. Other than that mostly oversight and consulting. I don't think at 70 years old he wants to, or should, be working 100 hour weeks.
Tying in to this topic as it relates to age, Marv Levy became the Bills GM at 80 years old in 2006. He retired after his 2 year contract was up.
Unless a guy like McDaniels can be brought here, I'd be fine with Coughlin. He seems to be as sharp as ever and his experience is 2nd to none. He probably would like to come here due to his ties to the city.

Jacksonville was not his first coaching job. That's why I said 25 and not 20. Quote:Also in this silly age argument, why are people forgetting Joe Paterno was 85? He wasn't hired at that age. If you hire a 70 year old you have a high chance of hiring a new coach in a few years. What's the point of that? Quote:He wasn't hired at that age. Undo the hex that bobblehead Gus put on the city of Jacksonville.
Make the Jags Great Again

Quote:You can have Blake, I would trade For Kirk if could. Could he be fixed sure? If he isn't? You ready to watch the Jags go under 500 again? I am sure you are. But unlike you. The only team I watch or have to time to the Jags. So no backup team here. You can't trade for Kirk. He is playing on his franchise tag tender and will be a FA in March. I would certainly welcome him if he chooses Jacksonville, but the Redskins tried to overpay him by an even larger amount. Dave would not throw starter money at him and say, "You might be the backup."
Quote:He wasn't hired at that age. If you hire a 70 year old you have a high chance of hiring a new coach in a few years. What's the point of that? My point is Joe Paterno could still be a very good and mostly healthy HC until the year he died. When people make age an issue, they are looking ahead at what can happen to someone older than 70. I'm skeptical. I remember a lot of fire Tom Couglin signs in the stands, articles, and SC segments wrapped around those two miraculous super bowl runs. Quote:"good" 3-4 years though? I'm skeptical. I remember a lot of fire Tom Couglin signs in the stands, articles, and SC segments wrapped around those two miraculous super bowl runs. Even if Coughlin is 50% of what he was as a coach he is still 10x better than Gus. He will at the least, bring some respect back to Jacksonville and build toward the future.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Quote:bad idea for tom to return to jags as thier HC. I say that because at age 70 this team could cause the poor guy to have a heart attack. I hope for his own health he doesn't become the HC. Lets all rember tom is a very emtiontial HC,and yes thats what jags need, but not one that can have a heart attak easier. I know you can have those if your younger, its just more likely when older, and under stress, For Toms own health i hope he isn't the new HC. Mike Ditka had a heart attack while coaching the Bears. Tom will be fine
