  If the Jaguars lose the remaining games,  IMO,  this will go down as the top prediction I've seen on the Jaguars Forum/ MB in the close to 14 years I've been participating here.  Even the Jaguars fans that are normally very pessimistic about the team didn't see a season like this coming.

Why do people keep citing his age? He doesn't have to coach into his 80s like Joe Paterno. He can come in for a few years and change the culture and potentially groom a HC-in-waiting.

Joe Paterno was only 85 one year. Before that I think he was like 70 or something. And someone said he aged more than 5 years in one year.

Hopefully not a ton. Be a figurehead that sets the disciplinarian tone we all want in a new regime, and definitely hires the next GM and tandems to hire the HC. Other than that mostly oversight and consulting. I don't think at 70 years old he wants to, or should, be working 100 hour weeks.

Tying in to this topic as it relates to age,  Marv Levy became the Bills GM at 80 years old in 2006.  He retired after his 2 year contract was up.

Unless a guy like McDaniels can be brought here, I'd be fine with Coughlin. He seems to be as sharp as ever and his experience is 2nd to none. He probably would like to come here due to his ties to the city.

You can't trade for Kirk. He is playing on his franchise tag tender and will be a FA in March.

My point is Joe Paterno could still be a very good and mostly healthy HC until the year he died. When people make age an issue, they are looking ahead at what can happen to someone older  than 70.

"good" 3-4 years though? I'm skeptical. I remember a lot of fire Tom Couglin signs in the stands, articles, and SC segments wrapped around those two miraculous super bowl runs.

Even if Coughlin is 50% of what he was as a coach he is still 10x better than Gus.


He will at the least, bring some respect back to Jacksonville and build toward the future.

bad idea for tom to return to jags as thier HC. I say that because at age 70 this team could cause the poor guy to have a heart attack. I hope for his own health he doesn't become the HC. Lets all rember tom is a very emtiontial HC,and yes thats what jags need,but not one that can have a heart attak easier. I know you can have those if your younger,its just more likely when older,and under stress, For Toms own health i hope he isn't the new HC.
