Fowler Jr is a bust

Quote:That's why they play the games.

Better call a bunch of stunts, because no way in hell can he beat a tackle around the edge. Has he even done that this year? He is garbage.

You should really find a new hobby, football clearly gets to you beyond the healthy limits.

I'm not mad over here. Just calling it like I see it. Fowler is trash. Deal with it.

I have to agree.  Today was the first time I've seen him get passed the edge, however, once he did, he jumped toward bradford and he just stepped up in the pocket...he sucks

Fowler's played 3/4 of season coming of an ACL for the worst head coach in the history of the game. I'd say "trash" is a tad premature.

Fowler hasn't done much and is clearly being outplayed by Yanick, but true - he may be best at the Sam linebacker spot.

We'll know more next year.

Got to get a coaching staff in here that has a clue and know how to utilize their personnel best.

Beasley with 3 more sacks so far today.  He's up to 13.5 sacks with 3 games to go.  Fowler isn't a bad player, but like has been stated many times before, he's not a very good pass rusher.  I wouldn't be surprised if Beasley gets more sacks this season than Fowler does for the majority of his career.

Just to play the devils advocate here.

Beasley's rookie year he finished with 20 tackles 4 sacks and 33 hurries in 537 snaps.

Fowler currently has 20 tackles 2.5 sacks and 15 hurries in 431 snaps, much better against the run , post ACL and with Gus as coach.

So its not like there's a huge gulf between both of their rookie years.

Not saying Fowler will reach what Beasley is like now just that there rookie years are similar.

I'm gonna give Fowler next year before I get hyper critical on him.  But he really needs to step up his game next year...

There are times where I don't even know if he's on the field or not.  He seems to disappear for most of the game, in my opinion.

Thanks for this.  It puts things into perspective.  Like I said, I'm not going to be hyper critical of him.  He just needs to really progress drastically next year.

Beasley has 13.5 sacks? Caldwell must feel like an idiot.

He has more personal fouls than sacks.

It is too early to give up on this player but having some expectations and accountability is not unheard of for the #3 overall pick.

When you are the 3rd overall pick, you should be expected to be a stud. Khalil Mack was picked 5th overall, he didn't shrink from expectations at all, he exceeded them.

Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.

The Falcons were also up 42-0 before the Rams just scored.

They've had to throw the ball and everybody knows it. That makes life for pass rushers much easier when they can just pin their ears back and go.

Falcons play in shoot outs, or with the lead. Lots of pass rushing chances.

We're always losing and other teams are running the football. Far less pass rushing chances.

The situations are completely different.

Also, it's not like anybody on the DL looked good today.

Besides a meaningless sack/fumble by Yannick. A play by Marks against the run and a nice rush by Jackson, nobody was good rushing the QB today, against the worst OL in the league.

Usually, it's 3 years for a player, before you can really get a feel for what they are and you can stamp a bust label on them or not.

If by the end of next season, Fowler looks like the same player and like he hasn't improved at all. The bust word can start being thrown around.

If a player's 3rd year is coming to an end and there's been absolutely no signs of progress, then it's obvious the writing is most likely on the wall.

I understand it takes time. But good players at least show flashes in the early stages of their career. Fowler hasn't done anything. Not once have I seen him beat a tackle around the edge and sack the QB. He has no pass rush skill. He may end up being a decent LB, but what a waste of a 3rd overall. As a pass rusher, he is Andre Branch/Derrick Harvey level garbage. Let's hope we get Myles Garrett.

It always seems to take a little bit longer for pass rushers to get adjusted at the NFL level and for good reason.

If you don't have elite bend (see Von Miller), or elite hands technique (see Joey Bosa as an example for a rookie), chances are very high that you're going to struggle and take a little extra time to adjust.

Bosa isn't a great athlete and doesn't have bend, but his hand technique has always been very, very good. If you can keep Offensive Linemen from getting their hands on you, you've already won 90% of the battle.

Hands technique is far and away Fowler's biggest issue right now. He relied on his speed and power to win in college. In the NFL it doesn't matter how fast, or strong you are if an OL-men gets his hands on you.

Saying Fowler hasn't shown anything is just wrong dude. While we'd all love to see him show more, since he is a high draft pick and since we've lacked any real pass rushing threat for a long time. He definitely has shown flashes rushing the QB. His run defense has also been a surprise and a positive that you can't over look.

He's definitely raw in his pass rushing moves and needs to spend a lot of time working on them in the off season.

In my opinion though, he must put most of his focus on his hands technique.

If he can learn to use his hands better and not consistently run his shoulder into OTs, I think he can be very successful in this league. He's going to have to put in a lot of work this off season on those hands though, because it's far and away the most glaring weakness of his.

I'm not willing to give up on him first year after an ACL tear before he got a single snap of experience last year. Couple that with having a poor coaching staff and I say he deserves more time.

Does that apply to bortles too?

Fowler's a bust.  It doesn't take 3 years to figure out if a DE can get to the QB.  Either you can rush the edge or you can't and he can't.
