Attendance is great at Wembly Stadium for sure, but the NFL clearly does not care about the thousands of Jaguars fans with season tickets who lost a home game. It is all about the bottom line. I understand that, but they could have chosen a Canadian city so kickoff times are the same locally and travel is far less expensive. Attendance in Toronto when the Bills were playing an annual game there kept going down. It's evident that the NFL believes that London is a more lucrative market to play games in than any Canadian city.

The key is at least through the present, London doesn't need a regular playoff contender to support 3 games a season, Toronto wasn't supporting even one game and that's why the Bills series ended.

I think it is because what we call football otherwise does not exist in the UK, so British fans are more excited about the games. Canada has a football league. The NFL is probably more popular in Canada than the CFL. But in terms of filling up a large Stadium for 3 games, London is now a proven entity. In Canada, hockey is by far the most popular sport.

I do sympathise with those fans who have lost a home game, I do think it would be good if they alternated it so that the Jags were the home team one year, then the road team the next. Anyway, I don't sympathise too much to be upset about it.. I'd be lying if I said I was anywhere near upset about it. I get to see my team once per year (although I've seen them twice this year having been on honeymoon in Florida in September). The rest I have to make do with GamePass, and that's ok with me because I know I live in England and the Jags are in America.

Population of Canada = 35m Population of UK = 64m Canada is considerably larger than the US only has a population of 35m whereas the United Kingdom has a population of 64m while only being slightly larger than the state of Florida. Europe as a whole has a population of 700m+, this is why the NFL are choosing to play in London and not Canada

Toronto to Buffalo is a 2 hour drive, Vancouver to Seattle is a 3 hour drive, Toronto to Detroit is a 4 hour drive. You can get there and back in a day. Going to an NFL game for me is an 8 hour flight at the minimum, flying to Jacksonville is 12 hours. And I haven't even begun to talk about the financial cost. A trip to London costs roundabout €500, just the plane ticket to Jacksonville is €600. |
