Those are the only current candidates we should be focusing on at the moment. The rest of those names people keep throwing around either have no head coaching experience or were terrible at it. Or, you'd have to give up a draft pick or two to trade for them. 

 

Shaw has a proven record at Stanford. He's learned from some of the best in the business like Dennis Green, Bill Walsh & Jim Harbaugh. He took over the reigns and continued to succeed and he runs a pro style offense. People sleep on him a lot as a candidate at the next level but I don't. He's been a positional coach for years in the NFL prior to his time at Stanford and he's just been around some really, really good football teams. 

 

Smith and Coughlin are the only other two candidates out there of recent memory that have had winning records at their last stints as head coaches. They have the history here already as well. So it just makes a lot of sense to bring one of them back here. 

 

 

I can see him at least interviewing Shaw to fulfill their minority candidate requirement.

Marrone is an offense mind. I don't that working.

 

I can't believe people want Norv. He was a poor HC and as it was just stated, quit on Minnesota midseason. 

 

If we get a defensive minded coach and he actually wants to be here, than sure I'd be interested at least a bit, but his SD stint than doing what he did this year is pretty alarming. Nothing more than an OC at best though.

Exactly. I made that huge list above of potential HC candidates, but Norv's name was intentionally left off along with Jeff Fisher. The last thing this team needs is a quitter in the top spot.

Maybe that is why he hasn't got a head coaching job yet. He needs to cut ties with his father and be his own man. If he did, he could get a head coaching job this year, but if he's determined to work with his father, he may get passed over again.

That's fine too. I don't see why elder Shanahan would be any worse than Coughlin in a football ops role.

Now I have heard that his dad might be an option for the 49ers next GM, and it's possible that he might want Kyle for their HC spot, but that certainly doesn't meant that Kyle wouldn't welcome an opportunity to interview for the Jaguars. Simply put, Kyle should be this team's top target as well.

   In 2014,  Ken Whisenhunt was a hot HC candidate.   Though I can envision him getting an NFL HC Interview this time around,  I'm be shocked if he gets another NFL HC opportunity after the results that led to his firing in Tennessee.

 

  John Pagano is worth looking at from the standpoint that the Chargers Defense has looked very good at times.   Injuries have made his job extremely difficult.  

 

 

Whisenhunt did nearly as bad as Gus so I don't see him another opportunity at that level. The Jaguar set a new losing streak record with nine straight by the time Gus was finally let go, and in that last game they had their division rival Texans on the ropes with a 20-8 lead before they blew that ninth game. He so had to go, but looking back there was one HC that he did manage to beat, and that was Whisenhunt.


 

John Pagano is an interesting option. He's certainly one of the league's better DC's, and having him as HC of the Jaguars would pit him against his brother Chuck, the head coach of the Colts. This would make for an intriguing matchup twice a year as brother fights brother. I'd be interested in finding out which brother usually wins their duels.

What about Bill Cowher? I know we talk about this whenever there is a HC vacancy in Jax, but you can't tell me that he's not the hard nosed disciplinarian that people like Dante Fowler and Jalen Ramsey need. He utilizes a run-first approach, and he built some stellar defenses in Pittsburgh. 

 

I'd add him to the Mike Smith, David Shaw, and Tom Coughlin train.

DC: Todd Bowles

 

 

Always been a fan of Bowles and I think the pressure of New York will wrongfully force him out. He will get the blame for "losing" the team.

He could run the defense solely with Coughlin keeping his attention on the offense.

 

The Knapp and Manning combo is a bit out there I know. Knapp has stumbled a bit as coordinator but I think Coughlin's influence and commitment to a strong run game would greatly help him. Maybe Manning tags along Knapp and sees an opportunity on Coughlin's staff. Just wishful thinking by me lol.

I normally agree wit ya.  But I was implying his Coaching Philosophy.  Not indicating I wanted Turner.  But then again everyone has a pipe dream tom will come in and win us a SB which will not happen.
