Jack: linebacker or safety?

#21

Keep Jack at LB.

If you want some LB/SS combo, draft Peppers

Quote:Myles Jack is 6'1"

Jenkins is 6'0"

Jenkins is a Free Safety, Jack would be Strong Safety.

He's got the size, and he's already shown an ability to absolutely smother TEs in Coverage.  His athleticism and skillset is perfect for SS.

His athleticism and skill set is perfect for SS in this system.  However his athleticism and skill set is more of a weapon at LB in any system.  At SS he is just a bigger version of what most SS already are.

Go Jags!

2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

Why does he have to be one or the other? A Coaching Staff who actually does "fit the scheme to the player" will figure out what kind of scheme will take advantage of his talents, how to coach that scheme and how to adjust that scheme for the best fit.

I couldn't care less if you called Jack a "Safetybacker", "Strongbacker" or "Marvin the Martian", but for God's sake! Figure out how to get him on the field!

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Just my opinion, but if the next coach brings in a 3-4 I think his best position would be the offside OLB.  It would allow him to rush or fall back on a TE whether the TE is in line or off to take use of Jack's coverage ability.

Just get him on the field, the guy's strength is coverage yet he never see's the field on 3rd down, doesn't make any sense.

With Cyprien being an UFA, I would be an advocate to see Jack into the SS role.  His abilities and size would make him a feared piece of the defense.  The SS position would also get him onto the field.

Can he keep number 44 as ss?

To me, this has the potential to be one of the most interesting debates we've had on this board.

The fact we are even having it speaks to his athletic ability.

There have been players who have made the move from college LB to NFL strong safety, most notably Pittsburgh's Carnell Lake (who interestingly later made the switch from S to CB) and Dallas' Darren Woodson.

I think I'd want him in at MLB if we remain in a 4-3, and if we switch to a 3-4, I'd want him at SS.

By putting him at MLB in a 4-3, he would be protected by two DTs, allowing him to utilize his speed from sideline to sideline.  He would be an asset in zone or man coverage and make our underneath defense much faster.  However he would not have the protection in a 3-4,and would have to take on guards which would minimize his effectiveness.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

MLB him and find another box safety through other means.

The way I see it his coverage and athletics would make him a good SS but it wouldn't put him in that over the top Kam Chancellor / Sean Taylor range IMO when compared to other SS's.

Now as a LB compared to other LBs he would be considered a monster. Not to bring up madden but one of their concepts does apply here  - the idea that say 85 Man Coverage would be great for a SS but it would be unreal on a MLB.  Remember only hypothetical!!!!!!

Myles Jack -

SPD - 88

AGIL - 89

ACC - 93

MCV - 85

ZCV - 79

TAK - 94

AWR - 77

As a SS that would likely net a 85 to 90 rating but as a MLB those stats would seem him no less then 95 overall by how its scored against other positions. IMO MLB maximizes what he can bring to us by allowing him to dominate over lesser TEs and RBs over the middle while still being in a position to blitz on occasion and being the main cog in the run defense too.

despite bringing up a fictional game full of BS.  I tend to agree that his ceiling is higher at MLB than it ever could be at SS  Thats why he doesn't move if its up to me.

Are we really incorporating Madden skillset numbers into a real life situation? We've hit a new low.

This is sort of how I see it. If we go to a 3-4 we could sort of copy the mold Arizona did with Telvin playing the Deon Buchanan role and then move Jack to SS. Let's say we go J.Allen in the first and a pass rusher in the 2nd (D.Walker?).

DT - M.Jackson/S.Day

NT - A.Jones

DT - J.Allen

OLB - Y.Ngakoue/M.Rush or Skuta

ILB - T.Smith

MLB - P.Poz

OLB - D.Fowler/D.Walker

CB - P.Amukama/A.Colvin

FS - T.Gipson

SS - M.Jack

CB - J.Ramsey

He couldn't learn the playbook a LB, so no way I'm sticking him in center field so QBs can drop dimes all day.

Jack is a LB not a Safety. Yeah he can probably play safety based on his athleticism. But he needs to focus on LB before we go sticking him in different positions.

Just have him play outside LB in Skuta's place and he can cover slot guys then when Poz is gone probably after next season move him in MLB. Also you cant guarantee Smith will be back after the 2017. So in that case you would pretty have 0 team experience at any LB position. If Jags are bad again next year I doubt Telvin comes back.

He did say hypothetical so I am sure it was in fun and understands Madden stats do not carry any merit. At least I hope that he knows that.

Where was it ever stated he couldn't learn the playbook? I think that's a load crock (not you) spouted off by the coaching staff to justify him not being on the field more (mostly in their own minds).

Simply put, I don't think they wanted to take PozIsland off the field because he played out of his mind and instead of just saying that since they wanted him at MLB, they opted to barely play him.

What's this obsession with having players switch positions? I've also heard people wanted to switch Ramsey to safety and I remember they played Mathis at safety too when he was a rookie. We drafted Jack to be a LB, specifically the replacement for Posluszny when he stops performing at his current level. So play him as an LB.
