Repeal and Replace Just Ain't Happening

#41

Quote:What he said is irrelevant to what is actually written in the EO. A Boston judge confirmed this.

As for adding more countries, the Press Secretary just confirmed that DHS Secretary Kelly is looking into it, but will not take action until the EO is relieved of its hold.

Also, regardless of all this, the President could still legally ban Muslims from immigrating to this country if he wanted, but he isn't. He is taking a different approach and doing it based on high-terror nations.

Rand Paul tried to pass a bill that put a hold on 33(!) countries. I would actually prefer Rand Paul's bill over Trump's EO.

Sen. Rand Paul Introduces “SECURE Act” Amendment to Prevent Terrorists From Entering the U.S. as Refugees

High terror nations?

For those claiming that it was/is a "Muslim ban" please explain something to me.  Why are military aged men from Pakistan not only being allowed into the country, they are being allowed onto a military base (specifically NAS Jax)?  There have been several of them that have been showing up to the main gate and being allowed access over the past several weeks.

Trump told us he was going to ban Muslims though? Was that a lie?

Isn't there already a topic started for this "Muslim Ban" nonsense?  We get one page of ACA and then of the rails.

Quote:Trump and his Republican cohorts campaigned on the promise that they would repeal and replace Obamacare, in Trump's words, "very very quickly."   Then, when he got elected, he said it would be by the end of the first week.   Now, Trump says it may get repealed and replaced by next year.

Apparently, the Affordable Care Act is not as bad as they said it was.  Otherwise, they'd just repeal it.  Right?

Well it's actually pretty good policy on the President Trump administration to be patient and ease the transition.  It's no surprise that it will take some time, and it all depends on how you interpret "very, very quickly".

First of all, consider that Obamacare is legislation that is thousands of pages long, the key word being legislation.  In order to change legislation it has to go through Congress which could take weeks or even months to do.  Then it goes back to the President where he will either sign it into law or veto it.

Unlike the way democrats rammed the thousands of pages of the Obamacare legislation through without due process (we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it), it appears that repealing and replacing parts of the legislation will actually happen through due process in a bipartisan way.

Just curious, how would you define "very very quickly"?

In terms of how things get done in Washington DC, it would be around the same time frame that President Trump talked about in his interview with Bill O'Reilly on Sunday.  For the horrible legislation that is Obamacare, it could and will take several weeks/months to fix it.  Getting it done within roughly a year is "very, very quickly" in political terms.

Works for me. I eagerly await the fixes to healthcare. I'm happy ACA passed as it is leading to more from the politicians. They weren't doing anything before ACA.

Of course you like Obamacare.  It gives liberals "free stuff".

Yeah except my healthcare isn't ACA. Second, not even close to what I said. Third, there are very few liberal policies I agree on. There are a few but less than half.

Got to quote myself this time.  I'm still waiting for an answer since this was a "Muslim ban".

You do realize you're paying much, much more because of it and getting absolutely nothing in return for the higher cost, right?

The system was better beforehand even with the few flaws.  It broke more than it "fixed."  There's simply no rational defense of it.

And yet my premiums have been rising at the same rate for the last 16 years! Almost to a dollar I can predict the next year increase.

Deductible has increased but the 5 dollars my wife's med now cost versus 160.00/month have offset.

I do like my health savings but then again that's an employeer perk that they put the money in.

Sometimes you gotta break it to fix it.

Saying the old system was better is like comparing human feces to dogs. It's still a dung!

You sound pretty happy!  Wish I could sell out to my false cause so easily with zero concern.

Like I said I eagerly await the fix! I am not crying about the repeal efforts.

I do think he wrote a check his butt can't cash. Should have worked away to fix the bad in the law versus getting folk all riled up. We will repeal and replace!!! Not with out 60 you won't.

Yes

Either he didn't understand that you can't constitutionally ban a religion from entering g the country or new this and was using hyperbole to rowdy up the base. Either way claiming you can or would ban all Muslims was a lie.

Personally I said all along you have to restrict immigration on geographical grounds exclusively which is what he is doing and it's perfectly reasonable.

I just want them to repeal the individual mandate. You can not have forced participation and then expect any kind of price control it under cuts the free markets ability to negotiate a price line.
