Black Monday
|
Quote:The news of Falcons Defensive Line Coach Ray ' Sugar Bear' Hamilton being fired likely got lost in the shuffle with so much happening on Black Monday, In fairness to the former Jaguars D-Line coach under JDR, did he really have enough to work with in Atlanta? I have my doubts. Yeah, Hamilton had little to work with there in Atlanta this season. That said, I wasn't really a big fan of Hamilton when he was here, either. Hamilton never seemed to have the array of pass rushing DE's that the Giants had in many recent seasons.
Some of you wanted Bradley to show that he's good by beating good teams, but also wanted us to tank to get the 1st pick? Gotcha.
Either way you will find something to complain about.

Uh, wanting to see the Jags get the 1st overall pick, and commenting after the fact on how the season ultimately played out, i,e. Bradley not beating a single good team, or even being competive against one are 2 different things.
Why has not the obvious been stated?
Every coach fired has a quarterback issue. If you don't have a quarterback you don't have a chance. And believe it or not, Shad Khan is probably as smart as most message board GMs and understands that he can't judge Caldwell and Bradley until he sees how they do in selecting a QB and competing with him. And who ever said some of these firings are fair? That's why the get the big bucks. Sometimes coaches suffer for poor QB play, or poor player selection by the GM.

Quote:Then explain Jason Garrett.... He gets a sympathy card. No Romo for the season finale buys him another year, maybe two depending on how Romo's health is coming into 2014. The fans are starting to turn on Plastic Surgery, just selling the brand is old now.
Whether someone has a liberal, or conservative viewpoint, a authoritative figure should not lock a thread for the sole purpose to get the last word in all the while prohibiting someone else from being able to respond.
Quote:Why has not the obvious been stated? The easy way to win is to have a QB. Of course that's not the only way. Look at what Harbaugh did with the 49ers? No one thought he had a QB when he showed up. Quote:The easy way to win is to have a QB.When Harbaugh showed up he had a #1 selection at QB on his roster, so it wasn't like he had to start from scratch. He figured how to best use Smith. And like Andy Reid, he figured out you can win with Smith and a good defense. But the point remains - if you don't have a QB it's not a question of if you'll get fired, it's just a question of when.

And like Andy Reid, he figured out you can win with Smith and a good defense. Alex Smith was considered a bust. In 2010 his passer rating was 82, and that was his career high. Harbaugh went to the NFC championship game and almost the Superbowl with a guy considered a bust. My point simply is that a great coach can win without having a great QB. That the guys fired didn't have QBs just means they weren't lucky enough to have the easy road to success, it doesn't excuse the fact that they were NOT top tier coaches. But to get very far in the playoffs you better have a QB who can get it done. Although the narrative on Alex Smith was that he was a bust, Harbaugh didn't listen to the narrative. Much like Carroll didn't listen to the narrative re Russell Wilson. I love when coaches go by what they see as possible rather than going with the conventional wisdom. And the coaches that were fired were not top tier coaches? How do you know? The top tier coaches are the ones who win, and they are the ones with the best quarterbacks. We had no idea if Chuck Pagano is a good coach or not. Still don't. But he has Andrew Luck and they win a lot of games.
