In my original post I suggest we sign Calais Campbell. We already have Malik Jackson and Abry Jones. Calais Campbell and Sheldon Day would give is one of the very best groups in the NFL.

They just signed Jackson to a huge deal. They aren't going to pay what the market will bear for Campbell.  

 

You also might need to think about how Marks and Jackson play one position technically and Miller and Jones play another, different position. 

 

They aren't all interchangeable in functionality in base formation.

I think Jefferson gets around 8 mil.  Cyp is a tough one for me.  I would say he is worth about 4 or 5 for some teams but I think he get overpaid.

That sounds about right, I wouldn't go over 5 million for Cyp.

he is a RT and I think we can find a guard in the draft easier than a tackle. Would love to get a guard but if we just sign one of those in FA and it was Wagner I would be more than happy. You won't be able to fill every position in FA, that's just the reality of it.

The Jags would have love to sign JPP and pay him over 14 mil per year. I see Campbell getting 12 mil and he is a perfect complement to Jackson. Jones and Day would functionall back them up.

And what would you do with Hightower if you got him?

 

Play him at the SAM and leave Jack the odd man out?

 

Move Jack to MIKE, get rid of Poz?

 

Sign Hightower as a backup and just give him a lot of money for the heck of it?

 

Hightower's only fit here would be SAM imo, because he isn't a WILL and he's nothing more than a 2 down MLB.

 

At the SAM, you'd then be signing a guy for a lot of money, only to play 20-30% of the defensive snaps.

You are selling Marks short.  Marks was coming off an ACL injury and started the season off slow but you could tell as the season went on he was getting his strength back and started to play much better down the stretch.  You act like 4 mil. is a lot of money for a 3 tech that can put pressure on the QB and is good against the run.  Who can you get for that price tag that is better?

Marks is one of the worst run defenders at the position and has been for 6 or 7 years. He is now just average at rushing the passer. His ACL was in 2014 (possibly) so if correct, his excuse Year was 2015 not 2016.


Campbell is in top three in both.

I wonder about that.


 

We're not going to keep the Gus Bradley scheme on defense. Is there a reason why a team couldn't play two 3Ts at the same time instead of a 3T and a 1T? Neither Stroud nor Henderson was a 1T. Why not use Marks and Jackson together. A LB group of Telvin, Jack, and Poz could certainly cover up for any failure in run defense caused by using two pass rushing DTs.
