Quote:I think one would go to a place with things that interest them.   If you love surfing, you might want to spend a month on the North Shore of Oahu.   If you just want to escape the world, you might want to go to Wyoming or someplace like that.

Me personally, I like art, history, food, museums, really all the things you would have in certain big cities.   So I would probably tend towards a big European city.   My day would consist of maybe one thing, maybe a particular art museum or historical site or interesting place, and the rest of the day just wandering around, or sitting in a sidewalk cafe, drinking and people watching.   I'd have an apartment where I could go take a nap if I wanted to, in a place where I could walk out my front door and see something interesting.  I'd go to the vegetable market and get some healthy food.  I might take a morning walk and just discover things.   I'd soak up the atmosphere.

I think the best places for me might be Rome or Paris- someplace that is worth spending a whole month.

That's the way I would do it.

I'm going to be honest here ... I start with what I can afford.

It sort of limits "my passions"

Marty, I wish all of us could see as much of the world as you have/do ... Refugee's see more than most of us ever will.

For the most part, It's our own fault. You are proof that it doesn't have to be so far fetched to see so much of the world around us ... more than we do through a 60" TV.

Just to be clear, my post was hypothetical.   I've never actually gone and spent 30 days of vacation in a city of my choice.

I can't imagine a job where you could take a 30 day vacation?

Speaking of which...have you been able to leverage your degree towards your goal yet? You put an awful lot of work into that.

At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.

I get so much, I can't possibly burn all my time off.

I know it's a sad, sad problem to have.
